Course Schedule Strategy five of Ocean County College’s Strategies

Accounts Payable Audience: Staff and Faculty who incur expenses for conferences, seminars, travel, professional

organization memberships, and those who approve vouchers for payment.

Delivery: Classroom and/or individual session.

This training will review the College’s accounts payable process and related

procedures to include travel expense authorizations and memo invoice

processes. Attendees will gain an understanding of the requirements for

submission of vendor invoices and methods of controlling expenses by verifying

and reconciling invoices.

College Relations Audience: Employees entering work orders for their departments.

Working on a program or event? College Relations wants to help you get the word

out! In this workshop, learn about the services provided by the College Relations

team. Get ideas and tips to help craft the perfect message for your intended

audience, learn how to complete the College Relations intake form, and increase

engagement from the college community.

Grants Management & Compliance at OCC Audience: Staff and Faculty members interested in pursuing grant funding opportunities.

Delivery: Online training available on the Staff and Faculty Portal under Services > Grants Information

(Note: A Grants Development and Management Reference Handbook specific to OCC procedures

This training introduces the basics of grant writing (steps, terms, types of grants,

funding sources, etc.) and provides an overview of the grants development

process at OCC. Topics include the policies and procedures for grant

implementation and specific federal requirements for grant reporting.

Purchasing Audience: Staff involved in purchase decision making and/or processing online purchase requisitions.

Delivery: Classroom and/or employee’s workstation.

This training will review the purchasing process and related procedures. It

covers the “how to” of submitting requests to purchase goods or services using

online requisitions, required compliance documentation for meeting NJ State

statute thresholds and requirements, and best practices for vendor contract

management. Information on timelines will be provided to aid departments with

planning projected purchasing needs.

Using Classroom Technologies Audience: All employees using classroom technologies

This class will demonstrate how to use the many features of classroom

technologies available on OCC Campuses. From turning on the projector and

using the VDI (Terminal PC) to operating the Blu-Ray/DVD Player via the touch

panel. An introduction and general overview to the Epson Brightlink Interactive

Whiteboard and its interactive tools will be provided. Time is allotted to answer

technical questions.

Excel End your Excel frustrations! Learn tips and shortcuts for breezing through

spreadsheets, graphs, and financial reporting.

Excel Intro: This course will familiarize participants with spreadsheet terminology

and fundamental concepts of Excel including navigating worksheets and

workbooks, using ribbons, entering and deleting data, simple formulas, inserting

rows and columns, and more.

Excel Advanced: Build on your current Excel skills and learn how to use data

Word Use Microsoft Word features with confidence. The following courses will enable

you to produce sophisticated, professional documents in a highly efficient

manner. Whether you are new to Word or an advanced user, these courses will

Word Intro: After an introduction to the components of the Word 2016,

participants will learn how to create a basic document. Features to be covered

include: editing a document, formatting text and paragraphs, adding tables,

managing lists, inserting graphic objects, page appearance, proofing a document,

and customizing the Word environment.

Leadership Academy

Ocean County College’s Leadership Academy is a component of the

“Strategies for Success 2015-2020” Strategic Plan.

The year-long program is intended to give selected participants the

opportunity to learn about, discuss, and practice

leadership using a variety of methods. The program will also provide

comprehensive feedback in the form of a 360 degree review and

facilitated self-assessment through one-on-one coaching.

If you are a full-time Administrative employee with division or

department responsibility (generally defined as Director or above)

or an Administrative employee or faculty member who serves in

leadership roles within your academic departments or elsewhere at

OCC; or have served in leadership roles in past employment, you are

eligible to apply for the program.

A broadcast message is sent when applications are being accepted

for the next cohort.

Legal, Regulatory, & Safety

Legal, Regulatory, and Safety trainings explore Ocean

County College’s adherence to safety and security federal

and state laws, regulations and guidelines.

Office Safety Audience: For supervisors and employees who work in an office setting. Includes HazCom/GHS,

bloodborne pathogens, common office hazards, workstation ergonomics and personal security.

Delivery: Classroom

This MEL Safety Institute course discusses dangers that are often overlooked

when working in an office. Topics include the main hazards that are faced in the

office setting such as electrical hazards, workstation set up and design, slips trips

and falls, and emergency and hazard communication. This two-hour course will

also discuss how to control these hazards to minimize their effects.

The goal of the Ocean County College Office of Security and Safety is to support the

educational mission of the College by promoting safety, providing a variety of emergency

services, and working in collaboration with the entire college and the community. The

Office of Security and Safety will partner with students, faculty, and staff to provide a safe

Budget Manager Basics Audience: Managers and those employees who manage budgets.

Go beyond the mechanics of accessing financial data. This training will help

managers understand the level of flexibility within their control to make their

budgets meet department needs and includes a review of timelines and

threshold requirements to assist with planned purchases. Tools available for

projecting purchasing needs and best practices for vendor management will also

be discussed.

Finance for the Non-Financial Manager Audience: Managers. Class size limited to 16 participants.

All managers need a solid working knowledge of how the institution operates

from a financial perspective. In this workshop, participants will learn about

funding sources of the operating budget, the budget cycle at OCC, and how the

budget supports the “Charting Our New Course” strategic plan. Differences

between the capital, auxiliary, restricted and operating budgets, as well as

nuances of the legislated procurement environment OCC operates in, and how to

prepare case for proposed funding of an initiative or item will also be covered.

Leading a Cross-Generational Workforce Audience: Managers. Class size limited to 25 participants.

Today’s workplace is more diverse than ever before. Not only are people from

different backgrounds, races and cultures working together, but for the first time

in history, there could be up to five generations of employees working together.

As the Silent and Baby Boom generations are exiting the workplace, the Post-

Millennial generation is already beginning to enter. This workshop will provide

understanding of generational trends, which in turn will help you develop greater

empathy for the reasons people may respond differently to the same situation.

Key leadership principles and the latest available research will provide the tools

and information you need to persuade, communicate with, and get the most

from your highly skilled and very diverse team members.

Managing One-on-One Performance Audience: Managers. Class size limited to 18 participants.

Using the One-on-One Performance Management Continuum, participants

will learn how to identify performance issues and select appropriate solutions

to help employees achieve a satisfactory performance level. Managers will be

equipped with a defined coaching process to improve performance through a

change in behavior, enhance their ability to create a constructive communication

environment that is open, positive, and engaging, and learn to provide

performance feedback that is clear, concise, and behavior specific.

Performance Management: The Evaluation Audience: Managers. Class size limited to 18 participants.

This workshop will provide an overview of the Performance Program:

establishing a plan for your employees, finalizing goals, creating developmental

objectives, and conducting performance evaluations. During this training,

you will review and discuss the evaluation template and use scenarios that

will illustrate how to select appropriate performance category ratings for your

employees.

Workshop attendees will explore techniques and approaches to providing

excellent customer service while learning new ways to problem-solve. Looking at

generational differences, the role of ethical and civil behavior within our campus

community, and non-verbal and verbal communication skills. Participants will

come away with more tools to effectively deal with student issues and behaviors

and recognize the signs of a student in trouble.

employees anxious, but that doesn’t have to be the case. Done right, your

self-evaluation will give your supervisor insight into your accomplishments,

growth, personal goals, and challenges during the performance year. Attend

this workshop for tips on completing your self-evaluation, practice writing goals

and development plans, and prepare for a productive performance evaluation

This workshop will look at the importance of effective communication, including

demonstrations, participants will gain a better understanding of the importance of self-awareness. We will explore emotional intelligence, learn skills to improve

interactions with your co-workers, and learn ways to best work with varying

personalities.
