In the absence of a soil test use acomplete turf- grade fertilizer with a 4-1-2 ratio,such as 16-4-8. Apply one pound of actual nitro-gen per 1000 square feet in September and, op-tionally again in November. j Irrigation A dark bluish gray color, foot printing and wilted,folded or curled leaves indicate that the turf needswater. Tall fescue needs a weekly application ofabout 1 to 1 ¼ inches of water, which will wet thesoil to a depth of 4 to 6 inches.j Weed Control Apply broadleaf herbicides to control dandelions,wild onions, cudweed and other weeds if neces-sary. j Insect Control Check for white grubs through October and con-trol if needed.j Aeration and Over Seeding Core aerify .
