Learning Resource TeacherMrs. Dempsey
The new Learning Resource Teacher position was created for the 2014 – 2015 school year to provide every elementary and middle school with a full time person to coordinate gifted programming and school-wide testing.
Learning Resource Teacher Responsibilities
Coordinate all testing in the school
Monitor the implementation of gifted services in grades 3 – 5
Collaborate with classroom teachers
Work with advanced learners in instructional settings
Oversee gifted identification for services
Provide support for teachers, parents and students as needed
Gifted Services Services are provided in both reading and math depending on each child’s instructional needs.
Reading
Students are cluster grouped in groups of 6 to 10 students in a classroom.
Students are instructed using the gifted curriculum during guided reading.
Other reading and writing activities are differentiated for the gifted learner as needed.
Math
3rd grade students are provided enrichment through the use of the Mentoring Mathematical Minds math program.
4th and 5th grade students are placed in the 4A (accelerated) and 5A (accelerated) classes.

4th Grade Accelerated Math Class. Students received all of the 4th
Grade Mathematics Curriculum with Common Core Standards and half of the 5th Grade Mathematics Curriculum with Core Curriculum Standards.
Fifth Grade Students
5th Grade Accelerated Math class. Students receive the other half of the 5th Grade Mathematics Curriculum with Common Core Curriculum and ALL of the 6th Grade Mathematics Curriculum with Common Core Standards

Jacob’s Ladder Reading Comprehension Program

Gifted Language Arts Units
The Center for Gifted Education at The College of William and Mary language arts units focus on analytic and interpretive skills in literature, persuasive writing skills, linguistic competency, listening/oral communications skills, reasoning skills, and understanding an overarching concept.
