The Holy Doors and Indulgences:

During the Jubilee Year of Mercy the Faithful may obtain a plenary indulgence by passing through the Holy Doors and

satisfying the other conditions prescribed.

To refresh everyone's memories, here are the normal conditions for receiving a plenary indulgence:

It is necessary that the faithful be in the state of grace at least at the time the indulgenced work is completed.

A plenary indulgence can be gained only once a day. In order to obtain it, the faithful must, in addition to being in the state of grace:

have the interior disposition of complete detachment from sin, even venial sin;

have sacramentally confessed their sins;

receive the Holy Eucharist (it is certainly better to receive it while participating in Holy Mass, but for the indulgence only Holy Com-

munion is required); and

pray for the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff.

It is appropriate, but not necessary, that the sacramental Confession and especially Holy Communion and the prayer for the Pope's

intentions take place on the same day that the indulgenced work is performed; but it is sufficient that these sacred rites and prayers be

carried out within several days (about 20) before or after the indulgenced act. Prayer for the Pope's intentions is left to the choice of the

faithful, but an Our Father and a Hail Mary are suggested. One sacramental Confession suffices for several plenary indulgences, but a

separate Holy Communion and a separate prayer for the Holy Father's intentions are required for each plenary indulgence.

For the sake of those legitimately impeded, confessors can commute both the work prescribed and the conditions required (except,

obviously, detachment from even venial sin).

Indulgences can always be applied either to oneself or to the souls of the deceased, but they cannot be applied to other persons

living on earth.

Dear Fellow Knights,

As we all know, we have witnessed an unparalleled vacillation/reduction in stock market values. Hopefully none

of you has been seriously afflicted. However, our bank fund has been seriously damaged, to the point that we

need to put a limit on our gifts and assistance we donate. For the next 90 days we will not consider or make do-

nations greater than $250.

We will certainly make ongoing efforts to get all spending under control and to this goal, we are looking, quite

definitely, to reduce or eliminate our rent, which currently is our greatest single expense. A number of knights

have agreed to look at the possible options we have uncovered.

We will keep you abreast of developments in either of the above, no matter which way it/they move.

Thank you, Tom Bieter, Grand Knight .

Corporal Works of Mercy:

To feed the hungry

To give drink to the thirsty To clothe the naked

To shelter the homeless

To visit the sick

To visit the imprisoned

To bury the dead. The Spiritual Works of mercy:

To instruct the ignorant

To counsel the doubtful To admonish sinners

To bear wrongs patiently

To forgive offences

To comfort the afflicted

To pray for the living and the dead. There are check boxes in front of each of the 14 Works of Mercy. Some are harder for some people than others. See how many you can check off during Lent this year. This is not a contest. The only ones keeping score are you ...and the Lord.

On Saturday, April 11, the Vigil of the Feast

of Divine Mercy, Pope Francis promulgated

the papal document that officially declared

the extraordinary Jubilee Year of Mercy. Set

to run from Dec. 8, 2015, the Solemnity of

the Immaculate Conception, to Nov. 20,

2016, the Solemnity of Christ the King, it'll

be a time of great grace.
