Five days of hockey, 30 championship games, dozens of vol-unteers, nearly 300 boxes of food donated... and hundreds ofsmiles.
That about sums up the latest Minor Oaks HockeyAssociation MOMS Awards Week, the annual celebration ofhouse league hockey held last week at Joshua’s Creek Arenasand River Oaks Recreation Centre.
MOHA house league vice president Wayne Moorehead calledthe week one of, if not the best, Awards Weeks he had ever beeninvolved with. The majority of the games were exciting andclose, including a number of overtime games, and one evenrequired a five-player shootout to decide a winner.
In lieu of admission charges, the MOHA accepted cash and
non-perishable food donations on behalf of the Salvation Army,Kerr Street Ministries and FairShare Food Banks. On top of the290 boxes of food collected (including the Timbits graduationday), approximately $2,000 was also received.
