MESSAGE FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
NEISD ADMINISTRATION & TRUSTEES
To the Friends of North East ISD,
Good luck to our students for another great year of athletic competition and academicsuccess at North East ISD.
A 360-degree education experience is fundamental for NEISD.We strive to offer opportu-nities for extra-curricular activities to complement rich academic courses and meet the needsand interests of all students. Our students succeed on and off the playing field—exercisingstrength and high proficiency in athletics, academics, JROTC, fine arts and other studentactivities. We had many award-winning athletic, dance and speech and debate teams; state-recognized bands and orchestras; national champion JROTC units; and other noteworthyaccomplishments over the course of the school year.
We are tremendously grateful to the community for supporting our 360-degree philosophy. The keystone to our schools’ success is the dedication of our students, parents, coaches, school staff and community—you all work together to make this entire district shine. Athleticprograms and other extra-curricular activities play a vital role in the lives of our students, aswell as the fans and families who attend games. Participating in a well-rounded education
improves not only the health and wellness of students, but gives them skills in teamwork and leadership that will carry themthrough their life beyond NEISD.
Thank you for supporting our students and our district. You help us maintain a tradition of excellence.

It was May 10, 1940, and thefreedom of Great Britain was indoubt. The time was at hand forthe King of England to make adecision. Which man would hesummon to become the nextPrime Minister? The King wantedsomeone else, but in the end hechose Winston Churchill to leadBritain through their darkest daysas he saved Democracy in GreatBritain and the free world.
Some 23 years later, PresidentKennedy and the Congress of the
United States made Sir Winston Churchill an Honorary Citizen ofthe United States on April 9, 1963, insuring that our school couldbe named Winston Churchill. The worldly leadership of SirWinston has only been enhanced by our school and the traditionof excellence it has displayed since opening in 1966. Our 27 StateChampionships and 2 Lone Star Cups in UIL Athletics marks us asof the finest schools in the State. As Sir Winston said, “Destinyis what I believe in, destiny commands we must obey”. The manand the school have lived by this motto and we continue thattradition of destiny and achievement.
Sir Winston Churchill’s life history is a part of the school’s lega-cy. The names of the various groups you see tonight are all linkedto him, Chargers, Lancer Dancers, Grenadier Drill Team, theRampant Lion mascot. The original Band uniforms were modeledafter the Queen’s Guard, the Guards used to protect BuckinghamPalace. The words we sing as our school song were penned byCindy Harrington, WCHS class of '68 in 1966. The song’s name isRule Britannia, originally written in 1740 by Thomson and DavidMallet.
Sir Winston Churchill is celebrated in many books and moviesabout him, two of which were recent HBO movies depictingseveral important times in his life. During his lifetime he received37 medals from 12 different countries. In 1953, Sir Winston wasawarded the Nobel Prize for Literature and invested as a Knight ofthe Garter by Queen Elizabeth II.
When Sir Winston died on January 24, 1965, he was given anhonour reserved rarely for anyone outside of the British monar-chy. His body lay in state for three days at Westminster Hall andthen he was given a State Funeral at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The Sir Winston S. Churchill Memorial Wall represents an excel-lent look at his life. About 50 items were donated from thepersonal Churchill collection of Donald E. Jakeway. They werepresented on behalf of the Churchill Centre of South Texas andMr. Jakeway. The “Sir Winston S. Churchill Scholarship Fund” wasalso established and has given financial assistance to severalChurchill High School students.

Take in the sights and the sounds of South Texas football. When I do, I can literally close my eyes, listen to the sounds ofthe roaring crowd, smell the night air, and feel that I’m back in1979--at this same place, at this time of year, with the samefeelings of Charger pride. The great tradition of Churchill HighSchool is alive and well because of the commitment and hardwork of our students, parents, staff, and community.
Those who choose to wear the red, black and white go into this contest with the highest expec-tations for victory. Their dedication and perseverance is remarkable. MESSAGE FROM COACH HILL
On behalf of the Churchill High School Athletic Department, it is my pleasure towelcome you to this athletic event. Your attendance and support of all of our athletic teamsare greatly appreciated.
Churchill will once again reside in District 26 AAAAA. While this is, without question, one of the most competitive districts in the state of Texas, it is exciting to have the oppor-tunity to compete in a league comprised exclusively of North East ISD schools. This yearshould provide much entertainment and excitement to all attending the many events andcontests provided by this great district.
I would like to encourage all of you to become involved with the Charger SportsAssociation. This organization works in a tireless manner to support all of the athletic teamsat Churchill High School. All money generated with this group goes directly to our manyathletic teams to help provide them with the best opportunity for success. Our meetingstake place in our new athletic complex, which is, without a doubt, one of the finest facili-ties in the state.
Our players, coaches and sponsors have put in many hours of work to insure thattonight's event is a success. Without the Cheerleaders, Grenadier Drill Team, Lancer
Dancers, Pep Squad, ROTC and the magnificent Charger Band working together with the football team, the excitement associated withTexas high school football would be incomplete.
Please show your support for our young people. They are doing their best to represent Churchill High School in a manner that willmake us all proud to be Chargers. Thank you for being here.
Sincerely,
Glenn HillAthletic Coordinator / Head Football Coach
