AS Media film opening…

Actors

On the right is an image of my main actor Jo who will play the innocent girl who gets stalked into the unknown forest…Character InformationAge- 17Name- JoReasons why I chose this actress…One of the main reason as to why I chose to use this actress as the role of ‘Jo’ is because of her passion and love for drama and horror films. This I hoped would reflect within my media film opening. Additionally the actor has many qualities in which I can see within the character. This (I hope) will be reflected within the film opening and create more of a thrilling atmosphere. The description of the character is that of an innocent young teenager. I chose this so that it would be more relatable for the target audience and will moreover support the horror element to the film. The actress has very big, bright, and emotional eyes. This is additionally one of the reasons why I chose the actress. This is because within the film opening I use lots of extreme-close up camera angles. Therefor this allows me to capture a more dynamic selection of shots- making the opening not only more interesting but more technical/dynamic.

Actors

Above is an image of the second main character within the film opening. This actor represent the character ‘Theo’. This character has quality's of that of a short temper but not that of a villain. Theo is quite lazy and ‘tiered’ like. Character InformationAge- 19Name- TheoReasons why I chose this actor…One of the main reasons as to why I chose this actor is because of his unique qualities. The actor is that of a similar age to the character and fits the image which I had previously envisioned. The actor is perfectly behaved and I believe I can get on well with him and he would respond well to instruction and work well with the other main actress. The actor is very normal looking which additionally allows the film to seem more realistic, which will have more of an effect on the audience. I additionally chose this actor due to the fact that he fits well with the main actress. There is a believable relationship between the actors. I need the audience to understand that they both have a good, strong relationship otherwise the film won’t impact the audience in a way that I need. The fact that ‘Theo’ is quite pale and has facial hair works well with the description of the character. This creates a more rustic and dynamic feel to the character in which I hope is reflected to the viewers/audience.

Further Information…

This is an image of the two actors together….

Jo and Theo…This duo of actors (personally) work will together. They already have previous experience of working together. Furthermore I hope this chemistry will allow my film opening to work to the best of its ability.

The villain….In regards to the villain of the film opening the audience don’t actually encounter the villain until later on in the film. Therefore music and sound play a massive part within the opening to insure that tension and fear is created despite the villain/monster is revealed.

Costume In regards to why I chose Jo’s costume…Jo will be wearing a red dress- allowing her to contrast with the forest and her surroundings. I additionally chose this as it empathies the fact that she is returning home from a party (as it is a stereotypical dress worn at party’s). The colour is also a key element as it represents the fact that ‘Jo’s’ personality is the contrast of that of the dress. This will be layered with a large green coat with a fur hood, suggesting it is cold and foreshadows a night-time event. This will be accompanied by a pair of black boots. The reason as to why I have chosen to do this is because it not only fits with the theme but the red of the dress could potentially foreshadow further events. I have decided to dress Jo in a dress as they are coming home from a party and it will thus fit the storyline of the film opening. The dress will additionally stand out in the forest and therefore allow the audience the know straight away that she the main character of the film opening. In regards to why I chose Theo’s costume…Theo will be wearing a chequered shirt accompanied with some blue jeans and sneakers. This represents the normalcy and practicality of his character. I wanted to show a contrast in characters. The fact that ‘Jo’ is wearing a dress and ‘Theo’ is wearing such normal clothes additionally represents an element of there ability to care for there appearance. Suggesting that ‘Theo’ is unreliable and perhaps wont be any help during the events which are about to follow. Despite them obviously being friends who are having an argument, I want the audience to understand that ‘Theo’ isn't the victim in the essence regarding the film opening. The focus should all be on ‘Jo’ which is represented in the clothing/costume etc..

Props One of the main props within the opening of this film is going to be the jewellery in which Jo wears. There is a shot of her hands, furthermore this prop should be considered carefully. Stereotypically someone who wears lots of rings on there fingers is someone a little creative and enjoys expressing themselves. I wanted to use rings as it could foreshadow future events that happen (i.e. Jo loses them and they are a large element within the film).Props also include the following…. Window necklace- cross hanging from the mirror The car Trees and big bushes Leaves Jewellery (as mentioned above) Reasons for why I have decided to use these props…I have ultimately decided to use these props to create tension and thrill. Not only are they stereotypical examples of props used in a horror film but will complement and allow my film to have more dynamic structure. These props will additionally help the audience to understand the film and help create atmosphere.

Make-up

Due to the fact that there is a large emphasis on Jo’s ‘big’ eyes, it is vital to do the correct make-up. Jo’s eye makeup needs to be big and bold but not too overpowering as the character must still look innocent and ‘fragile’. Therefore I have decided to use bold make up in the simplest of forms (as shown above). The lips will be red- matching her dress. This will be slightly worn away to show the audience is it late within the day and it has been a while since she applied it last. This therefore suggests that she has already been out. This will also allow the audience to notice that she will stand out- she is the main focus within this element of the film.
