Character I admire/ like/ whom I want to befriend with/ who is interesting

In the Novel The Curse written by Lee Su Ann, the character I like the most

is Azreen who is totally different from her sister, Madhuri.

To begin with, I think that Azreen is an outspoken and active girl. She is not

afraid to speak her mind and she always does the thing she likes. For example, shelikes male sports like hockey, football and silat-cum-boxing so she used to play

    them with her male friends.

Besides, Azreen is very intelligent and independent. She does well in her

studies and is the top student in the school. She displays her independence when

she goes to Penang on a student exchange programme. She also secures a

    scholarship to study in London.

In addition, Azreen is a very responsible girl. When Azreen accidentallytrample the Old Ladys garden, she returns the next day to repair the trampled

garden. This act wins the Old Ladys heart and they become close friends.

On top of this, Azreen believes in friendship. She has a heart of gold and iswilling to sacrifice for her friends. For instance, she takes the blame for Mohd Asraf

for the bull incident which injures her mothers leg. This is because she wants to

protect her friends, Asraf. She also tries to save the old lady from the burning house

although it is extremely dangerous to do so. When the innocent old lady dies in the

fire, she confronts Asraf who set the house on fire like a wild cat.

Furthermore, Azreen is a brave girl who has guts to confront the mob led by

Puan Normala to protect the old lady. She is not afraid ofthe village gossiper who

    likes to spread rumours.

At the end of the novel, Azreen shows us that she has learnt to forgive other

people, including her father who has killed her sister, Madhuri. ( 306 )

    Climax/ sad event/ most important event/ incident never forget/

In the Novel The Curse written by Lee Su Ann, the

__________________________________is the attack on the Old Lady by an angry

    and irrational mobs.

The incident happens after the sudden death of Asrafs grandmother, Nek.

The village gossiper, Puan Normala who likes to spread rumour makes Asraf tobelieve that the Old Lady has poisoned Nek. The grief-stricken Asraf joins an

    angry mob to seek revenge.

After hearing the news, Azreen rushesto the Old Ladys house. She is shocked

when she saw Asrafholding a torch in a hand and a hoe in another. He is trying

to break down the Old Ladys door with the hoe. Azreen tries to stop Asraf but

he refuses to listen. He pushes her away and she falls down. Azreen stabsAsrafs

foot with a spade which she finds nearby. Consequently, Asrafdrops both the hoe

and the torch in his hand and setsthe Old Ladys house on fire.

Azreen rushes into the house and finds the Old Lady trapped under thepillar. The Old Lady wants Azreen to leave and advises her to learn to forgive.

Before the house collapses, a hand pulls Azreen out of the house. It is Saleh,

    Azreens father.

This ( sad/ unforgettable ) event is significant because after the demise/ death

of the Old Lady, Azreen confronts Asraf like a wild cat. He breaks down and

tells Azreen all the truth. It is only then she knows that Asraf and Madhuri are in

love and they are planning to elope to KL. This event also shows the danger of

rumours and lies. The Old Lady is killed because of the lies and rumours.

Moreover, the incident also shows a fathers love towards his child; Saleh risks

his life to save Azreen in the burning house. Finally, this incident has thought

Azreen how to forgive. It is the final and the most important lesson from the OldLady to Azreen. Azreen manages to start a new life by forgiving and moving on.
