Fellowships are awarded usually for a 12-month period to scientists in a formative stage of their research careers, preferably with less than 10 years of postdoctoral experience, for training in basic or clinical areas of biomedical research. Applications must include a complete and explicit plan for the research training and evidence of acceptance by a training institution and preceptor. Stipend levels depend on age and experience but range from approximately $10 000 to $14 000. Other benefits include travel costs and allowances for de- pendents.
