CHAPTER 6: GOSPEL VISION

Dillon, Samantha, Robert, Joe, John, Christopher

Learning Franciscan Gospel Vision

• Some of the core beliefs are God, relationship with other people, body and sexuality, suffering and death, work and vocation, also nature and the environment

• After finding core beliefs you then have to write a personal mission statement which includes who we want to be, what we want to do, what we want to devote our life to, principles to anchor our life, and the legacy we want to leave.

Mission Statements

• There are two different exercises to formulate a mission statement

• One is visualizing a certain situation and asking what would you like to say to them ?

• The other is to ask yourself " what is my job on the planet ? " but first you must ask " what is my job " then finding out what your job on the planet is.

Matching Visions

• To match visions you have to ponder your mission statement and ask yourself questions about your statement.

• Ask yourself how you feel about it, does it seem energizing, does it provide focus, and does it have a positive effect on you ?

Gospel

• A gospel is the teaching or revelation of Christ.

• Greenleaf begins the chapter by saying " not much happens with out a dream " he says Francis was a great dreamer, his vision or concept of what he was called to be and do was simple, but profound and compelling.

• We are told to live the gospels. Francis had a mission and rule which guided all of his decisions and formed charism. His mission was to rebuild the church.
