Chapter 5, Lesson 1 Notes Being Well Groomed Benefits of being groomed o To remove dirt and germs that cause illness o Protect the skin from infections and rashes o Prevent acne and body odor o Improves your mental and emotional health o Promote positive self-esteem and helps you keep your self-respect o People will enjoy being with you Benefits of Rest and sleep o You should have 8-10 hours of sleep each night o The body repairs its cells and grows o The body fights infection during sleep Caring For Your Skin The skin is the largest organ of the body, protecting your internal organs The skin helps maintain body temperature and prevent fluid loss Two main layers: Epidermis Dermis Ways to care for your skin include . . . o Take a shower everyday o Wash body with soap and water o Drink plenty of water to flush out impurities from your skin o Wear sunscreen with at least 15 SPF (sun protective factor) o Wear hats and protective clothing o Avoid tanning booths ! it exposes the body to ultraviolet rays and increases the risk of skin cancer ***Cut out picture and paste in your notebook*** For 1 st Period: I have the picture printed to give but it is not in color.
