Types of Millwork
• Millwork is any item that is considered finish trim or finish woodwork
• It is designed for appearance or for function
• Much skill is required when cutting millwork for a particular design

• Baseboard is placed at the intersection of the floor and the wall to protect the wall

• Wainscot is a material that separates the lower and upper portion of the wall

• Chair rail is used to protect a wall and placed horizontally at the top of a chair back

• Cornice is place at the inside corner of wall and ceiling as a decorative trim

• Generally modular or custom cabinets are available

• Modular cabinets are prefabricated at the factory– Fillers are added if spacing is not exact
– Considerably cheaper then custom cabinets
• Custom cabinets are made to suite a particular room and are “made to order”

Universal Cabinet Design
• Kitchens– Cabinets should be 27” tall to accommodate a
wheelchair
– At least 48” of clear space is needed in front of cabinets
– Additional storage is recommended
– Keep eating area near kitchen for convenience

– Grab bars needed in shower and beside the water closet
– Consider benches for easy transition to and from a wheelchair
