Simplest Form-
a number that has a whole number part and a fraction part
a fraction who’s numerator greater than or equal to the denominator
the greatest of the common factors of two or more numbers
a number that represents part of a whole or part of a set
the bottom number of a fraction (the whole)
equal or the same
the answer to a multiplication equation
the top number of a fraction (the part)
Scaling- to increase or decrease a ratio a fraction in which the GCF of the numerator and denominator is 1
Prime Number- a number who's factors are only 1 and it’s self
Multiple- The product of a number and any whole number (Think: skip counting)
Least Common Multiple- The smallest multiple of two or more numbers
Factors- two or more numbers multiplied to form a product
I Can….
Determine the GCF and LCM for a given
number set.
Greatest Common FactorEssential Understanding: • To determine the greatest common factor of any number
set, compare the prime factorization of each number in the given set.
• Think: Factor Tree
Example: What is the greatest common factor for the given set. 12, 42, 72, 90
• Quick Check: Page- 11 Questions- b, c, and d
Least Common MultipleEssential Understanding: • There are two ways to determine the LCM of any given number
set.1) Create a list of multiples for each number given.
Example:
2) Multiply the prime factors of each number. (each factor is used once)
Example:
• Think: Skip Counting

Whole Class GameThe Final Countdown
Directions:• Students will be divided into 6 groups.• One player from each group will compete to
against other players to determine the GCF or LCM for a given number set.
• The first player with the correct answer will be be rewarded 1 point for that round.
• The team with the most points at the end of the game wins!

Bell WorkScarlett planted rose bushes around her porch. She measured the growth on the plants each week for 4 weeks. The results are shown in the table below.
1) How tall was Scarlett’s plant after 2 weeks? After 3 weeks? After 4 weeks?
2) Suppose Scarlett’s porch is only 3’ tall. How much more can the plants grow before they will need to be trimmed?

I Can….
add and subtract fractions.
Add and Subtract Fractions
Essential Understanding: To find the sum or difference of fractions, you must first identify a common denominator. Remember to scale both fractions up or down until you reach the LCM. Once all fractions have a common denominator, you can simply add or subtract the numerators (the denominator will stay the same). Simplify when possible.

Day 3
Bell WorkKelly makes $80 a week babysitting. Each week she
deposits of her earnings into a savings account. How
much money does she put into the account each week?
Justify your answer.Kelly is saving her money to buy a prom dress. The dress she has picked out will cost her $400. She estimates she will have enough money, after 6 weeks of saving. Is she correct? Why or Why not?
How many weeks will she need to save, before she can purchase the dress?

Multiply fractions.
Multiplying Fractions
Essential Understanding: To multiply fractions by fractions, you simply multiply numerator by numerator, then denominator by denominator (straight across).Write the product in simplest form.
Examples:
• Quick Check: Complete problems 1-6 on page 104
Multiplying Fractions and Whole Numbers
Essential Understanding: To multiply a fraction by a whole number, begin by converting the whole number to an improper fraction by placing a 1 as it’s denominator. Then simply multiply numerator by numerator and denominator by denominator (straight across). Write the product in simplest form.
Examples:
• Quick Check: Complete problems a-g on page 98-99

Day 4
Bell WorkThere are 150 students in the band and 90 students in
the chorus. ½ of the band members and 4/5 of the
chorus members participated in a charity concert.
1) Which group hand more participates?
2) How many more?
Let’s change this problem:
How many members would the chorus need to have
more participants than the band?

I Can….
Multiply fractions by mixed numbers.
Multiplying Fractions and Mixed Numbers
Essential Understanding: • To find the product of fractions and mixed numbers, begin by converting
the mixed number to and improper fraction. • This is done by adding the numerator to the product of the denominator
and whole number. (leave room for example).
Example:
• Next simply multiple numerator by numerator and denominator by denominator (straight across). Finally write the product in simplest form.

• Quick Check: Complete problems 8-13 on page 114
