Ruth Ruth within this chapter seems to be trying to continually destroy the bond between Kathy and Tommy. This is revealed when she tells Tommy that Kathy finds his drawings terrible when in all reality Kathy doesnʼt. It may be because inside Ruth is jealous that Tommy bought the Judy Bridgewater tape for Kathy in Chapter 15 and she was acting out of spite and jealousy “Itʼs not just me sweety. Kathy here finds your animals a complete hoot” Ruth, pg 192 Tommy In this chapter, Tommy begins to start drawing more art in the form of imaginary animals to prove his theory that these artwork represent whether the clones have souls or not. He seems to be much more interested in proving that he had a soul after hearing about the deferrals which may explain the motive behind Tommyʼs sudden interest in art. “tiny canals, weaving tendons, miniature screws and wheels that were all drawn with obsessive precision” Kathy, pg 185 Ka!y Kathy within this chapter is once again victimized by Ruth accusation for laughing about Tommyʼs drawings but Kathy doesnʼt fight back or reject the statement. This is because she might be too timid or scared or because she feels that it may worsen the situation if she argues with Ruth. “So in the end I stayed silent, while my mind searched back frantically, and with a cold horror, settled on that night up in my room with our mugs of tea.” Kathy, pg 192
