Recall that Windows 7 supports multiple users and that Windows 7 Home Premium stores settings and files for each user account on your computer. When a user logs on, Windows 7 displays the files and desktop for that account. When you log off, all windows are closed and any unsaved work will be lost. When someone else is logged on to a computer that you need to use, you can switch Windows 7 to work with your account without logging the other user off. This prevents the other user from losing his or her work. To complete this project, you will need the following file: New blank WordPad document You will save your file as: Lastname_Firstname_w07_01_Switch 1. If necessary, turn on your computer and log on. 2. Start WordPad. If necessary, snap the window to the right half of the screen. In the WordPad window, type your first and last name. 3. 7. In the Shut down list, click Switch user, and then compare your screen with Figure 2.

Depending on how your computer is configured, the Welcome screen displays andindicates that you are still logged on to Windows 7. Your Welcome screen will displayyour account name and the account names for others that use your computer.

8. If your Welcome screen has another user displayed, click it. If not, read but do not performsteps 9 through 14.

9. If necessary, in the Password box, type the password for that account. If you do not know thepassword, click the Switch User button, and then read but do not perform steps 10 through 14.

10. Compare your screen with Figure 3, and then click the Go button .

11. Start WordPad, and then type This document will not be saved.

12. Click Start , point to the Shut down button arrow, and then click Log off. Compare yourscreen with Figure 4.

When you log off with unsaved work still open, you will be given the opportunity tosave the work. Here, WordPad displays a message with three buttons. You can use theSave button to save the work before logging off, the Don’t Save button to log offwithout saving changes, or the Cancel button to cancel the log off process.

13. In the WordPad message box, click the Don’t Save button to log off without saving thedocument, and return to the Welcome screen.

14. On the Welcome screen, click the button for your account name. If necessary, enter yourpassword and click the Go button . Compare your screen with Figure 5.

The original WordPad document is still open. Recall that in previous steps, you usedthe Switch user command instead of the Log off command. In this manner, switchinguser accounts leaves the original user’s documents open.

15. Type 1. and then add a space. After the space, type the letter for the answer to the followingquestion:
