AVE MARIA UNIVERSITY AN OUTREACH TO THE ANN ARBOR / YPSILANTI COMMUNITY FROM AVE MARIA CHAPEL AT DOMINO’S FARMS BULLETIN APRIL 2018 The chapel community at the Ave Maria Chapel at Domino’s Farms is a special group to say the least, and the reverence and devotion of attendees is indeed inspiring. The primary mission of the Chapel is to make Mass and Confession available to those who work in the building as well the local faithful. In addition, the chapel community serves as a group interceding for the various apostolates, which have originated from the Ave Maria Foundation – not the least of which are Ave Maria University and Ave Maria School of Law. While both of these schools are now located in southwest Florida, their ties to Michigan remain strong. If fact, there are generous scholarships available to BOTH institutions, specifically available to students from Michigan. These are indeed unique opportunities and your assistance in promoting these scholarships is appreciated. These generous scholarships will provide financial assistance in attending a vibrant Catholic school where students are serious about their Catholic faith. Thank you for your support last year during this 100th Anniversary of Fatima. We were fortunate to have a statue in the Chapel to commemorate this historic event. The statue was made available by a daily Chapel attendee. We trust many blessings were obtained through prayer to Our Lady of Fatima.

Your support is essential to the Chapel operations. The Chapel support for 2017 was $63,765, a decrease of $2,392 from 2016. We truly appreciate your financial support, these monetary contributions covered approximately 43% of the $145,000 annual operating expenses to run the Chapel.

If you are able to contribute on a regular basis, we have many options listed below to assist you.

Please visit the Chapel website for online giving http//dominosfarms.com/AMUchapel Text giving: Simply Text to 734-212-5119 with the amount that you would like to give.

Thank you and have a Blessed day.

Remembering Mario HiltonAs many of you know, Mario passed away on July 16, 2017. Mario served as the full time Sacristan at the Domino’s Farms Chapel for 26 years. Mario has been greatly missed at the Chapel.

Mario’s love of God and dedication to prayer was evident. If you had a prayer request, Mario was your prayer warrior. His life was centered on his love of God and serving oth-ers with a joyful heart. His kindness and happy demeanor touched those who visited the Chapel.

Mario was also a Third Order Carmelite. He was called to his heavenly home on Sunday, July 16, 2017, the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.

Mario is buried at St. Thomas Catholic Church Cemetery in Ann Arbor. May the soul of Mario, Rest in Peace.

Fr. John (Hanna) Tayar, a priest of the Maronite Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary, has been serving at the Domino’s Farms Chapel since September of 2017.

Fr. John’s Arabic name is Hanna which translates to John in English. Hanna means “God is gracious” and his mother chose that name to express her gratitude to the Lord.

Fr. John was born and raised in Lebanon. He comes from a large family with seven children (four boys and three girls). He grew up during the civil war in Lebanon and had to flee his hometown of Aley because of the bombing. One of his brothers was kidnapped during the war and his fate is unknown to this day.

As a young man, Fr. John joined the Maronite Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary and was ordained in 1996. He felt his call to the priesthood was unquestionable since his early childhood. His mother, still his role model, made prayers part of the family’s everyday life. So, when he joined the Maronite Order, it was an extension of the life of prayer, peace, and love that he experienced at home.

Prior to coming to Ann Arbor, he served in several positions. For the past six years, he served as a member of the Maronite Supreme Council of the Order and was also the Director of the Notre Dame University-Louaize Campus regional branch.

Have you ever wonder how the Mass came to be? Author, Tom Nash explains the Mass in an easy and understandable way. Working through Scripture, Nash offers an authoritative explanation of salvation history, showing how the Old Testament prefigures – and the New Testament wonderfully records Jesus’ one self-sacrifice of Calvary which is made present at each and every Mass. This book helps one see and experience the reality of the Mass in all its fullness.

Nash is a Research Associate at Ave Maria Radio, contributing Apologist for Catholic Answers and a Blogger for the National Catholic Register. Pick up a copy of his book at the Our Lady of Grace Bookstore today.

Featured Book: The Biblical Roots of the Mass, by Tom Nash

He taught religion courses at the University and reflected that he always enjoyed teaching because there is continuous learning and you are given the chance to affect and to be affected by the youth.

He is currently not attending school, but would like to complement his doctoral degree in Socio-Religion with one in Management - specifically of educational institutions. He said “this would help with my teaching and management skills so I may serve the Order and the Community better”.

Fr. John noted that he enjoys serving at the Chapel and expressed his gratitude by saying “I am very happy to be part of the Domino’s Farms Chapel community and I truly feel blessed and welcome among the members of this wonderful family. I look forward to knowing the community more and serving it to the best of my abilities”.
