The ultimate expression of Chainti Classico. This is absolutely bang on with dried plum

nose, bitter cherry fruit & excellent spicy dry finish.

227 Secastilla Old Vine Garnacha 2008

£55.00 Viñas Del Vero, Somontano, Spain

Made from 90-year-old Garnarcha vines. This Garnacha from high altitude offers an

extraordinarily seductive wine. It demonstrates a deep ruby colour with violet tones, with

a powerful but delicate nose of acidic tones & complex aromas that combine the freshness

of apple, with earthy tones, liqueur chocolates & liquorice over a mineral base.

233 Chalk Hill Barbera 2015 £57.50

McLaren Vale, South Australia

A hugely concentrated Barbera which comes dressed in a dark, vibrant purple-red robe.

From Chalk Hill winery which produces small hand crafted wines & makes by far

Australia's best example of this Piedmont grape.

225 Saint-Joseph 2012 £57.50

Victor Berard, Rhone, France

A touch of smoke, full & rich black fruit & seasoned with a sprinkling of spice; this has

lovely depth of black fruit on the palate. It's crisp & full-bodied, pure & fine, long, elegant

& concentrated.

226 Mercurey 2012

£59.50 Domaine La Domal, France

Impressively complex nose with aromas of spice, dark berry fruit & earth. Concentrated

palate with an abundance of juice that stains the palate, while the smooth oak notes

frame the polish tannins. Enjoyable even in youth. it is a terrific value Pinot Noir wine.

228 Château Petit Cantenac 2011 £67.50

Grand Cru, Saint Emilion, France

Deep red right to the rim, vibrant but not opaque, with a lush, primary red fruit nose,

jammy & fresh. Bright red fruits, crunchy on the palate, with really supple, medium

weight tannins behind, going to a lovely long, fruited finish. Very elegantly handled.

252 Château Peyre-Lebade 2010 £69.50 Cru Bourgeois Haut Medoc, France

Château Peyre-Lebade wines feature the fruity & fleshy characteristics specific to the Haut-

Médoc appellation. They are nonetheless distinguished by the high Merlot content, which

makes them particularly supple. From Benjamin de Rothschild.

230 Chorey-lès-Beaune 2010 £69.50 Domaine Roy Vallon, France

Fine bright purple, with very fresh, invigorating, concentrated, raspberry fruit

characters. It is juicy through the middle & has good length & is much more succulent

264 Château Pavillon de Poyferré 2006 £75.00

2nd Wine Leoville-Poyferre Pavillon, St-Julien

Second wine Leoville-Poyferre Pavillon, this has all the character & polish of the Grand

Vin but does not require the patience. With an expressive nose of crème de cassis,

liquorice & spring flowers there is a juicy texture & balance only found in top vintages.

232 Chateauneuf du Pape 2012 £75.00

Domaine Roger Perrin, Southern Rhone, France

Ruby/black robe & black fruit, pepper & a hint of vanilla. A very complex nose. The

tannins are very fine & it has a generosity on the mouth that makes it very attractive. A

remarkably long lingering finish with a touch of freshness & an extraordinary balance.

92 Parker Points.

242 Château Potensac 1997 £83.25 Cru Bourgeois, Médoc

Dark glowing crimson. Grunty, very concentrated. Arguably the miracle here is to find

a wine from Jean-Hubert Delon (the makers of Ch. Leoville Las Cases) at around £95.

& one you could actually think of drinking too. This should certainly appeal to

classicists – especially those knowledgeable enough to know it’s related to the most

expensive super second of all, Léoville Las Cases. Jancis Robinson, Sept 2011, 16/20

234 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru ‘ Clos des Marechaudes Monopole’ 2011 £85.50 Domaine du Pavillon, Albert Bichot, France

Our monopoly Aloxe Corton 1er Cru « Clos des Marechaudes » has a beautiful garnet red

colour. The nose has fruity aromas of blackberry, strawberry & notes of mild spices, tea

& cocoa. With a very supple tannic structure, this well-balanced wine has lovely pleasant

velvety tannins. The finish is long & aromatic, reminiscent of the fruity aromas of the

nose.

235 Château Soutard 2001 £89.55 Grand Cru Classé, Saint Emilion, France

Like so many 2001s, this is soft, ripe & very gratifying. It is deeply mineral with hints of

liquorice, graphite & forest floor. The palate is full of soft, plumy fruit, raisins & minerals.

This is a very easy drinking & charming mid-weight St Emilion. Must be decanted!

239 Chateau Musar Red, Gaston Hochar 2009 £90.00 Bekaa Valley, Lebanon

Chateau Musar occupies a unique place among great wine estates. Located in Lebanon's

Bekaa Valley, one of the ancient world's most important agricultural regions, Musar

produces wines from a blend of known varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Carignan,

Grenache & Cinsault) & native grapes (Merwah and Obaideh). Is this the world's most

distinctive red wine?

236 Hermitage Farconnet 2006 £94.50 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave, Northern Rhône, France One of the greatest producers of Hermitage, Jean-Louis Chave has a wine-making

philosophy that harnesses terroir, fruit & tradition to produce wines that show great

purity & complexity. This is a vibrant wine, bursting with juicy red berry & black pepper

characters, but has enough depth & concentration to age well.

237 Château Pavillon Rouge 2008 £145.00 2nd Wine of du Chateau Margaux, France The second wine, the 2008 Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux, represents 47% of the

crop (keep in mind that 17% of the total crop was sold off in bulk), & is composed of 68%

Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, & the rest mostly Petit Verdot with a tiny dollop of

Cabernet Franc. It is a beautiful wine exhibiting classic purity along with red & black

fruits intermixed with licorice, tobacco leaf, & floral nuances. Sweet, round tannins, & a

lovely forward freshness suggest this stunning second wine should drink well young…92

RED WINES (Cont.) Bin Bottle 249 Vega Sicilia Valbuena 2008 £180.00

Ribero del Duero, Spain Vega Sicilia is more than a great domaine, it's a living legend!!! A story that started in

1848 and that continues year after year to offer not only excellent wines but sensationnal

wines!!! A 6 year barrel ageing, and the wines ages 3 more years in bottles in order to end

the ageing proccess. If you add to that an impecable vine selection, you can understand

why the result is so delightful...smoothness, complexity and lingering finish. You should

carefully prepare this great tasting moment! 96 Parker Points.

260 Château Lafite-Rothschild 1990

was

£1100.00

1er Cru Classé, Pauillac, France

now

Dark ruby. Lively, fresh & transparent at first with the soaraway refined scent of a

Lafite. Then it took on the typical concentrated rich & velvety character of a fine 1990.

Long & impressive. 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

243 Château Pétrus 1995

was

£2040.00

Pomerol, France

now

Unquestionably one of the vintage’s superstar, the Petrus 1995 is taking on a personality

similar to the extraordinarily backward, muscular 1975. This is not a Petrus that could

be approached in its youth (i.e., the perfect duo of 1989 & 1990). The wine exhibits an

opaque ruby/purple colour followed by a knockout nose of toast, jammy black fruits, &

roasted coffee. On the palate, it possesses teeth-staining extract levels, massive body, &

rich, sweet black fruits buttressed by powerful, noticeable tannin. A formidably endowed

wine with layers of extract, this is huge, tannic, monstrous-size Petrus that will last for

50+ years. 95+ Parker Points.
