Top 40 Under Forty: Jena Murray

Jena Murray is the founder and creative directorof VEENA, a social enterprise and sustainable girlswearbrand which uses art and creativity to help girls findstrength in who they are and build courage.

VEENA was recently funded on Indiegogo and thecampaign raised a total of $15,875.

VEENA believes in a triple bottom line: people, planet, profit. They offerorganic, fair trade certified product and value sustainability, transparency andethical production practices. They have teamed with Source My Garment tocomplete ethical overseas manufacturing in India. Recently, Jena traveled toIndia to work with girls in undeveloped areas. She taught them both jewelrymaking and English.

Jena holds a New Media degree from the University of Lethbridge. She alsocompleted the Fashion Design & Marketing diploma program from LethbridgeCollege and an Art Instruction Schools Certificate.

A three-time National CIS Rugby Champion withthe University of Lethbridge Women's Rugbyteam, Jena and the team were inducted into theLethbridge Sports Hall of Fame in 2012 and theAlberta Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.

In 2011, Jena interned in Satellite Operations atthe Canadian Space Agency creating 3Dmodels, animation and web applications for thesatellite Neosat. In 2013, as part of the FashionDesign and Marketing Diploma, she interned fordesigner Anna Sui in New York.

Jena engages our community through herVEENA WARRIORS campaign. VEENAWARRIORS is a program and open community that brings girls together using

art and creativity based activities to help them reflect, communicate and growtheir self esteem.

She has run both private sessions and visited schools within Southern Albertato speak with girls and help them build self esteem using creativity. Jena is inthe process of planning VEENA WARRIORS sessions with a registeredpsychologist, counselor and art therapist for 2016. She also to run a summercamp during 2016 that will focus on helping girls feel empowered and confidentin achieving their potential.

For her her dedication to improving the lives of girls everywhere through uniqueand socially conscious business, The Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce andBDO are proud to recognize Jena Murray as one of Lethbridge's Top 40 UnderForty.

We have been making many changes at the Lethbridge Chamber ofCommerce, and we would like them to come back and check them out. Fromnow until the end of the year we will provide a complimentary membership forthose businesses when they sign up for Chamber membership.

Last year was a great year for us. We had the privilege of hosting andattending almost 100 events. We re-structured our board, committees andmembership plan. We have strengthened our advocacy for our members, andadded even more membership benefits for you and your staff.
