June 2007

There are many reasons this year why being the West Orange Chamber Chairman has been very gratifying to me. One of the biggest reasons is the continued “positive” feedback that I have received from not only current members, yet also from new members. They have shared with me new business success stories, being able to meet other community business owners and associates, and being appreciative of the work that the Chamber does for our area schools, hospital and other civic organizations. Hearing this type of feedback just makes it all worth the time and effort that your Chamber Board and Staff put in. These are some of the comments that we have heard lately. Hopefully, all our members feel the same way.

• “We had a great time at Best Fest and met a lot of people who could be future customers and others we would like to use for our business needs,” said Karen Campbell & Denise Reed of The Dinner A’fare.

• Brian Fultz of 1-800-GOT-JUNK commented, “The chamber has provided a terrific mix of events and opportunitites for involvement that have helped me achieve my networking goals.”

• “Best Fest was a great time and participating has already begun to show in our catering department so, we will be back next year!” said Dawn Dorris from the Rosen Center.

West Orange – The Place for Business

Recently, I was a panelist at a luncheon at which I was asked, “Why are businesses coming to West Orange?” The answers are simple, “West Orange is the Place for Business.” Business, whether local residents, who want to move their business to West Orange from downtown, or others relocating from other parts of Florida or the U.S., have very specific needs & interests. These businesses need an educated, sizable and young workforce, space to grow and of diverse types, easily accessible by road, air and train, and the amenities that make up the highly sought after, quality of life.

The beauty of West Orange is that we have it all:

• Median age of 35• 70% population in between 19 & 65• 90% population over age 25 with a H.S. diploma or higher• 60% population over age 25 with some college to masters degree• Winter Garden and Ocoee will each have 3,000,000 square feet of commercial development that includes

retail, hotels, office and flex space over the next three years• Horizon West Town Center has potential for 8.2 million square feet of non-residential use• Town of Oakland, Winter Garden and Ocoee all have industrial sites• Class A office space under construction in Ocoee, Winter Garden, MetroWest and Dr. Phillips• Easily accessible to turnpike, 408, 429, and I-4• 80% of schools rated A or B• Nearly 200 lakes covering 25 square miles with 6 public boat ramps• Over 50 parks encompassing 1,000 acres including 19 miles of the West Orange Trail• 20 golf courses • Historical sites including buildings on the National Historic Registry, museums and a renovated Garden

Theater, theme parks and more

MEMBER TO MEMBER TESTIMONIAL

I have been an active member of the chamber from the day I set foot in Ocoee, FL. I have made many great business relationships and lots of friends along the way.

As the chamber membership grows, and we collect many new diversified businesses, it really enhances our “opportunities” to do member to member business transactions.

In the past few months, two new specia l ty bus inesses have been great new resources for the West Oaks Mall, which I have found difficult to find in the past! 1-800-GOT-JUNK, that I met at a business after hours & Encryption Records Management, who placed a flyer in a recent newsletter!

HOTTOPIcS–JuNE13,2007

Do you run out of day before you’ve gotten to everything on your to-do list? Do you wish you had more time to get everything done? That’s not going to happen – we get the same 24 hours each day, and somewhere in there, besides work, we also need to eat, sleep, and take care of our personal lives.

So, what’s the secret to time management? Here are two hints: It’s not about finding more time, and it’s not about writ-ing better to-do lists. Here’s another hint: If you come to Hot Topics, on June 13, 2007, at 7:50 am, you’ll find out how to:

• Identify time leaks – both for you and for your company• Learn how to plug those time leaks• Develop a do-able time management plan

June’s Hot Topics speaker is Peggy Isaacson, of HR on Call, a human resources consulting and training company that helps owners of small to midsize companies get answers to HR questions and solutions to HR problems.
