Pam Gould, 2006 Chamber Chairman
Health Central Foundation
What’s important to you? I care about having West Orange County the best placeto live, work and play. I expect the best schools, the best healthcare, an improved
roadway system, and the quality of our lakes to be preserved or improved. What do you expect? YourChamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee has taken a pro-active approach tocommunicating our priorities to the Legislature.
I have included a brief description of some of the legislative positions that have been presented to ourLegislative Delegation:
Support Economic Development Incentives of 50% rebate of taxes generated from ConventionCenter business coming back to the municipality that has ownership of that center; Completethe funding of right of way and construction for widening SR 50 between Avalon and GoodHomes Roads; Strongly urge that PECO approves funds to create a joint agreement betweenUCF and Valencia Community College for a 2+2 curriculum on the Valencia West campus;Tort reform for an individual or a business with a damages claim that they are only partiallyresponsible for - this would create a fair and equitable justice system and abolish joint andseveral liability; creating a risk pool that will help create reasonable rate health insuranceto Florida residents; support legislation that funds School Nurses as part of the infrastructureof each and every public school and immediately increase education funding to accelerateexcellence in education including teachers’ pay, capital expenditures and education materialsto at a minimum a national average level; support legislation that incentives to better protectnatural resources and manage and develop water supplies.
On March 28 and 29 the West Orange Chamber is hosting a Capitol Connection Trip to Tallahassee inconjunction with the East Orlando, Seminole County/Lake Mary, Winter Park and Apopka Chambersof Commerce’s. If you are interested in participating on this trip please contact your chamber.
