Omega (capital: Ω,)is the 24th and last letter of the Greek alphabet. In

the Greek numeric system, it has a value of 800. The word literally

means “great O” (ō mega, mega meaning ‘great’), as opposed to

omicron, which means “little O” (o mikron, micron meaning

“little”). This name is Byzantine; in Classical Greek, the letter

was called ō, whereas the omicron was called out. The form

of the uppercase letter derives from that of an omicron

broken up at the side (Greek Omega 09.svg), with

the edges subsequently turned outward (Greek

Omega 05.svg, Greek Omega 03.svg, Greek

Omega 07.svg). The modern lowercase

shape goes back to the uncial form

Omega is the 24th and last letter in

the Greek alphabet. It holds a value of 800 in the greek numeric

system. This letter is commonly used to mark the limit of a set, opposite to alpha, the first letter of the greek alphabet. The meaning

of the word is “Great O”, and not to be confused with Omicron, which means “little O”. This letter was also adopted into the early Cyrillic alphabet, so

there is also one named Cyrillic omega. Omega’s uses range from a variety of forms. In chemistry, it symbols oxygen-18, a natural, stable isotope of oxygen. Various

other meanings include; the solid angle inside gyroscope,the multiplicity or number of microstates in a system for statistcal mechanics, representing Omega baryons in the field of particle physics, in astronomy to refer to the vast

density of the universe (density parameter), to refer to the longitude of the ascending node of an orbit, measure in Lambert’s W function sercing as a solution in complex

analysis, the codomain of the subject classifier of an elementary topos in topos theory, in combinatory logic the looping combinator, in Christianity as part of the Alpha and Omega metaphor, in the Latin Alphabet

as a letter of the 1982 revision to the African reference alphabet, the logo of the God of War

video game series based on Greek mythology, the logo of Omega watches, the logo of E-123 in Sonic the Hedgehog, the logo of the Ultra- Marines in Warhammer 40,000, the symbol

of the resistance movement against the Vietnam-era draft, the year or date of death, used to refer to the lowest ranked wolf in a pack, the symbol

used for the end of all in eschatology, in molecular

biology to show a genetic contstruct,

and for my typography

project.
