1 Chapter (59) sūrat l-ashr (The Gathering) Sister Eman al Obaid Class 16 – Jan 8 th 2020 Yaqeen Allah swt extracts so much ibadah from you, this removes the confusion and Allah swt gives you something with confirmation and with the evidence which gives you peace. Allah swt wants to give you the evidence so that you have the yaqeen. Tests We don’t need to challenge ourselves, this is not the test, the test is to rely on swt. If we challenge ourselves then we may rely on ourselves. When you have a goal you want to challenge yourself, prove something to yourself, but your iktibar is how much you rely on Allah swt. We are poor to Allah swt and only He can explain to us who is Allah swt. May Allah swt make us understand Him because we cannot speak about Allah swt in a way which is suiting Him. Even with all the resources in front us of we cannot do justice when speaking about Allah swt. When we want the deep understanding and impact of what we hear we need to attach to Allah swt and not depend on each other. Our connection to Allah swt should be very pure and this will remove any ‘hashr’ in our lives. When we are far from Allah swt there is so much ‘hashr’ in our lives, there is so much confusion and we are seeking some kind of harmony in our lives. When you are out of your comfort zone, trying to take lessons from it you realise there is only one comfort zone and that is knowing Allah swt, and this is what Allah swt is trying to teach you. Tasbih You want the safety and the security, you want to gather yourself. In life there are so many things you want to do, and just when you think you can now finally get on with what you wanted to do, the time is up and you have to get on with another chore. In life we are continuously going through stages and cycle but through it all we need to be with Allah swt and to keep doing the ‘tasbih’. The tasbih will organise your life, it removes all the imperfections from Allah swt. Even when you feel you don’t know what to do Allah swt will show you His izzat and His hikmah. Everything I go through in life is to understand Allah swt, to know myself, to know the category of the people, how to choose the best. You will understand what is ‘La illaha illaLlah’. You will understand all the beautiful Names of Allah swt mentioned in the last verses of Surat al Hashr. This is how Allah swt deals with you. Al Aziz Al Hakim 59:1 Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth exalts Allah, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. 59:24 He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise. The beginning of surat al Hashr begins with the Names of Allah Al Aziz Al Hakim. And the surah also ends with Names of Allah swt Al Aziz Al Hakim. Throughout the ayat in between, Allah swt is explaining to you Al Aziz Al Hakim. When you accept these two Names of Allah, Allah will explain more of His Names. This is a journey where you need to feel some emotion.

Yaqeen Allah swt extracts so much ibadah from you, this removes the confusion and Allah swt gives you something with confirmation and with the evidence which gives you peace. Allah swt wants to give you the evidence so that you have the yaqeen.

Tests We don’t need to challenge ourselves, this is not the test, the test is to rely on swt. If we challenge ourselves then we may rely on ourselves. 59:22 He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. 59:23 He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. 59:24 He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

He is Allah The last three verses of Surat al Hashr all begin with ‘huwa al-lahu’. ‘Huwa’ refers to what happened, everything you experienced is because He is Allah swt. Allah swt

wants to teach you who is Allah swt from what previously happened. Allah huwa (Allah is He) has a different meaning. When you know one of the Names of Allah swt you will interpret the situations in your life with this one Name. When you know two Names of Allah swt you will interpret the situations in your life with these two Names of Allah swt etc. when you know ten Names of Allah you will interpret everything in your life with these ten Names of Allah swt. So imagine when you know more than ten Names of Allah swt. What will make you to interpret everything in your life correctly so that you are not following your desires and not being extreme? You will interpret everything in your life correctly when you know who is Allah swt. Someone who knows one the Names of Allah swt will explain the same situation differently than one who knows ninety nine Names of Allah.

The Understanding The more Names of Allah you will know, the more you will be able to explain what is happening in your life and understand why it is happening based on Allah swt actions which is unseen. You will understand more:

- understand the Qur’an more - understand your life more - understand yourself - understand the people

When you know the Names of Allah swt you understand Allah swt, and understanding Allah swt gives you the understanding of so many things which no one can teach you. The main purpose of knowledge is to know Allah swt – Asma al Husna. In ayat 22 to 24 the Names of Allah are mentioned seventeen times.

He is Allah, beside Whom La ilaha illa Huwa

Al- Alim (All Knower) Ar-Ra’hman (The Most Gracious)

Ar-Ra’heem (The Most Merciful)

Al-Malik (The King)

Al-Quddus (The Holy) As-Salam (The Giver of Peace)

Al-Mu’min (The Giver of Security)

Al-Muhaymin (The Guardian)

Al-Aziz (The All-Mighty)

Al-Jabbar (The Irresistible)

Al-Mutakabbir (the Supreme)

Al-Khaliq (The Creator)

Al-Bari (The Inventor) Al-Musawwir (The Fashioner)

Al-Aziz (The All-Mighty)

Some of these names are unique to Surat al Hashr: As-Salam (The Giver of Peace) Al-Mu’min (The Giver of Security) Al-Muhaymin (The Guardian) Al-Jabbar (The Irresistible) Al-Mutakabbir (the Supreme) 59:22 He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

He is Allah Isim Allah is repeated more than 200 times in the Qur’an.

The name ‘Allah’ includes all the other Names of Allah.

This name is defined with ‘Al’

The definition of the Name ‘Allah comes from: - The One we WORSHIP - The REFUGE whom we flee to Allah swt is always available when I am in difficulty. - Someone I LOVE and MAGNIFY

The One my mind cannot grasp or ENCOMPASS.

Attachment is only for Allah swt, you are drowning in His love and worship. Our nature is to attach to someone whom we cannot grasp or encompass. We know all about the Prophet SAWS so we do not attach to him. Sometimes people worship people like Fir’awn as they cannot surround themselves with these people.

AL MAALU When people feel someone is perfect they make them an ilah and then they worship them. The worship needs to have the feelings of Allah swt divinity and perfections, but sometimes people

skip this part and go straight to worshipping Allah swt. With Al Maalu (divine attributes) all other attachments will vanish.

Allah swt is Perfect – this will make you to drown in Allah swt because He encompasses all the Divine Attributes.

Allah swt is free from all faults, all imperfections, free from anyone resembling Him. No one is similar to Allah swt. People make idols when they think

there is someone similar. There is imperfection in the good qualities of the people. When you have maalu about someone – Allah swt will show you their faults.

Allah is so perfect I cannot encompass Him. The heart of the good slave will

only drown in the love of Allah swt, in His Greatness and Majesty. They will humiliate themselves to Allah swt by magnifying Him and obeying Him. Their hearts are drowning, their heart beats when they remember Allah swt. The heart is moving towards Allah swt.

The One Whom you love the most. The love of Allah swt is extreme love, anything else, you love after Allah swt.

AL MA’BOUD

After the love of Allah swt comes the worship – you worship Allah swt because of the love. My heart is connected to Allah swt with love. The misconception is that we need to fear Allah swt, or I want to go to Paradise so I will worship

Allah swt. Complete love with complete humiliation in the heart generates the worship. The heart worships Allah swt before your tongue or your limbs worship Allah swt. When you know Allah swt there is no confusion in your life as you are busy with Allah swt. People go to Allah swt to fulfil their needs, to get the safety and the security. Sometimes we don’t know what we need, we don’t know what to say or what to ask but you know you need something, you go to Allah swt and you will get it because you don’t know what Name Allah swt will deal with you or what you need. Allah swt fixes everything.

Allah swt is the One worthy of worship. Allah is worthy of the worship of the heart, the tongue and the limbs.

IMPACT What should you do when you know Allah al Maalu and al Maloud? You need to give Allah swt His rights in your heart. You will only turn to Allah swt, hope from Allah swt.

Give Allah swt His right in the worship – perfect love with perfect actions. You relationship with Allah swt is internal, with feelings and with devotion. So much happened in Surat al Hashr but all the solutions were unexpected, no one thought the hypocrites would be removed from their fortresses.

no one is worthy of love and magnification except Allah swt. Don’t turn or flee or attach to anyone except Allah swt. No one is perfect except Allah swt.

The First Name of Allah swt Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. The sequence here is very important. After Allah swt you have three names in ayah 22. Firstly the shirk is removed. We have ‘hashr’ in our lives because we think we know everything. You believe in Allah swt because Allah swt knows.

Al Alim is from ilm (knowledge). You need to believe in Allah swt, the One Who Knows. Knows the unseen and the witness. Al Alim is an attribute.

Alim is one who is knowledgeable. Knowledge is evidence, truthfulness, not just information. Al Ghayb – absent from the eyes of the people, absent from what people know, the unseen. Therefore I don’t know everything so we shouldn’t put ourselves in a position that does not suit us.

Al-shahādati – something witnessed by the people. Allah swt explains both sides, what we see and what we don’t see. Hashr can be from the inside or from the outside; we see things from a birds eye view or we see the detail.

Allah swt knowledge is perfect and complete, for us we only know about what we see. Our knowledge is taught to us and sometimes we forget it. We are ignorant and forgetful. Allah swt always knows everything. Chapter (19) sūrat maryam (Mary) 19:64 [Gabriel said], "And we [angels]

descend not except by the order of your Lord. To Him belongs that before us and that behind us and what is in between. And never is your Lord forgetful -

Chapter (72) sūrat l-jin (The Jinn) 72:28 That he may know that they have conveyed the messages of their Lord; and He has encompassed whatever is with them and has enumerated all things in number.

Allah swt has knowledge of the unseen and at the same witnesses the seen. - externally and internally - the present and the future - what is behind closed doors and

what is disclosed. We don’t know the ghayb, we don’t know the future, we don’t know the intentions of the people. The Muhijireen, the Ansar and the people who came after, their actions and intentions are shown to us.

Allah swt knowledge encompasses even the smallest of atoms, the smallest grains in the darkness of the earth; Allah swt knowledge encompasses a leaf falling from a tree; Allah swt knowledge encompasses where it is dry and where it is moist; the components of the oceans. Allah swt knows everything. Everything is in its place and it is in the right place.

Everything Allah swt encompasses Allah swt wrote it in the ‘Preserved Tablet’.

Allah swt knowledge encompasses the deeds – the actions of the people. This makes you to be careful of your actions. You are fearful as Allah swt knows what is in your heart, and at the same time this gives you security because Allah swt handles everything in the best way. This is a comfort and clarifies so many of your doubts. Nothing is lost as Allah swt will recompense everyone, give them the right title and put them in the right category.

There are levels of Ilm Allah swt.

1. Allah swt knows the matter before it exist. Allah swt did not disclose the secrets.

2. Allah swt knows why it is in the Preserved Tablet. Anything written in the Preserved Tablet is known to Allah swt unlike our knowledge which we forget even when write it. This is the past, the present and the future.

Don’t stress, what happens in our life don’t regret it, don’t blame, don’t add confusion to your life – we can’t encompass it all.

What should you do? Be responsible for your actions. You need to believe and observe that Allah swt is watching you. You need to perfect your actions and make ‘ihsan’ (perfection) your goal. Focus on yourself, observe yourself.

59:22 He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, Knower of the unseen and the witnessed. He is the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful. In everything that Allah swt does there is ‘rahma’. There is always mercy in everything so always ask Allah swt – may Allah swt give us the mercy. Do tasbih and Allah swt will show you He is Allah swt.
