Chestnut Hill HomeLocated in the heart of Chagrin Falls, the
sun pours into Chestnut Hill Home and itlooks like spring has arrived. The shop fea-tures exposed brick walls, an inviting mock-kitchen, a simple white upholstered chairwith oversized pillows designed in vibrantcolors and patterns, and touches of grass-shaded green everywhere.
Interior Designer Janna Lutz, in the busi-ness for over 22 years, describes the shop’sstyle as “tradition with a twist.” The collec-tions often are rooted in classical design how-ever they employ updated materials and fin-ishes with a youthful exuberance, she said.
“The look is sophisticated without beingformal or fussy,” she said.
The shop is a showcase for the latesttrends, from tableware collections, drapery, bedding, gifts and lighting, she said. From fan-ciful chandeliers, colorful vases of natural-looking silk flowers, specialty paper goodsand votive candles, to a collection of uniquefabrics for upholstered furniture, ChestnutHill is all about style.
Ms. Lutz offers a full array of design serv-ices from her studio, located within the store. The firm offers custom cabinetry for kitchenand bath as well as custom-built furniture. She and her experienced team work withclients in areas such as lighting, floor cover-ing, tile and stonework, furnishings and color.

Timan Custom Window TreatmentsTiman Custom Window Treatments, com-
ing to Chagrin Falls this spring, is owned byKathleen Timan and, family-operated, has
been a leader in window coverings for morethan 20 years.
The trend in window coverings is two-fold — functional and fashionable, accordingto Ms. Timan’s daughter, Nicole Relic, whohelps run the business with her brother,Adam. In the past the focus was on function.
But times have changed and as a HunterDouglas Gallery, Timan carries innovativeproducts that offer the best in technology andfunctionality, Ms. Relic said. The companyoffers window coverings, motorization andcustom design to fit the way you live, she said. Take the patented Duette Architella Honey-comb shades in luminous colors and crisppleats that reduce energy loss up to 50 per-cent. Three insulating air pockets are incorpo-rated into the shades to create the brand’smost energy efficient product, she said. Lovely gradations of light and shadow are cap-tured with Silhouette Window shadings withHunter Douglas’ Signature S-Vane – whichutilizes soft fabric vanes suspended betweentwo sheers, diffusing soft light into any room,at any privacy level while maintaining UVprotection, she said.

Her shop and studio, housedin an historic, white cottage inChagrin Falls, has large store-frontwindows featuring rotating workby local artists. Inside, it’s “com-fortably organic,” from the simplewhite upholstered settee andchairs, to a multitude of hand-blown glassware, and colorful cot-ton, woven rugs by Dash & Albertavailable in a multitude of patternsand sizes.
The tongue-and-groove wallsand ceiling, painted white, serveas a neutral backdrop for fancifulquilts, oil paintings, table acces-sories, and small upholstered fur-niture that may be custom ordered.
“Simple is better and there isnothing like natural cotton, linenand silk fabrics. Designing a roomis like painting a picture. I like topersonalize each room to its useand its user. There are many beau-tiful styles to choose from. There isnot ‘one’ correct style ever.”

Mary HobbsA family heirloom is born
when Chagrin Falls artist MaryHobbs creates a piece.
Memories of the historicModroo farm, a landmark in theChagrin Valley, were captured forthe family in a painting that will betreasured by generations to come.
Her technique of using col-ored pencils, creating layer uponlayer of translucent color, achievesa realistic vision and captures the“soul” of the subject.
Mrs. Hobbs’ versatility isamazing, from her life-like por-traits of people and animals, to thewarm glow she sees in a family’shome.
Her process begins with tak-ing a variety of photographs of thesubject and discussing the focus ofthe painting with the client. Shepresents five or more preliminarysketches so the client can reviewthem and choose, she said.
A member of the ColoredPencil Society of America, her aimalways is to make sure each clientis extremely satisfied when theyreceive their painting, she said.
To insure longevity of thework, Mrs. Hobbs said, paintings, which start at $500, are created onarchival and acid-free fine qualityboard.

ing heirloom-quality furniture, fine art and “uncommon” decora-tives, said owner Lynn Giesen.
The Source specializes inhigh-end, timeless, classic furni-ture and home accessories in pris-tine condition, said Mrs. Giesen, who also conducts fair market val-uation appraisals of personal prop-erty for clients.
