Dreams Goals

• Easy – something you think about• Timeless • Free• Imaginary – dream of being a

superhero• Never end• Inspire you• Ever-changing thoughts

• Require action• Have a deadline – have a time

limit• Come with cost and hard work

(time, money, effort, sweat) but produce results

• Based on reality – accomplishable• Have a deadline• Change your life – abilities, skills• Have focus

WHY GOALS ARE IMPORTANT• Gives life purpose – improves your outlook on life• Show you and the world what you value• Helps you to move forward in a positive direction

• Gives you direction• We can have all the dreams in the world, but if we don’t act on

them, how will we get to where we want to go?• Long term vision and short term vision

• Helps stretch your comfort zone – turn the impossible into possible• Involves pushing past challenges and breaking barriers in order to

achieve goal• Turn “someday” dreams into real-life accomplishments

WHY GOALS ARE IMPORTANT• Lead to feelings of satisfaction• Measure and take pride in achieving• See progression – better than yesterday

• Increases your confidence• Recognise own ability and competence in achieving • Attainment of small goals lead on to bigger goals

• E.g. More presentations, beating personal records

A mental training technique that can be used to increase an individual’s (or a team’s) commitment towards achieving a personal goal

SMART GOALS
