Suitable locations and intended uses

• Choice of door and frame type often depends upon intended use and design.

• Door must be able to deal with all the rigors of use and maintain its strength.

• Traditionally made using framed, ledged and braced construction.

• Filled with bead and butt or tongue and groove matchboarding.

• Ideal where strength is of greater importance than appearance.

• Typically used for smaller garages.

• Tend to be part glazed in domestic situations, allowing more light in.

Meeting stiles for tongue and grooved matchboarded doors

• The meeting stiles should be rebated to the centre for flush closure

• A smaller rebate on each side will give a feel of symmetry and balance to each stile

• More decorative feature door using a bead and butt profile to the boarding

• The same profile should be used at the meeting stiles

French doors • Can be made up from most standard single doors though each individual door is usually narrower in width than a standard door.

• Benefits: – Let larger amounts of light through– Accommodate access for large

number of people– Reduce bottle necks.

• Hanging principles are the same as a standard door but extra care is needed at the fixing stage for the frame and door to prevent twisting and poor closure at the meeting stiles.Eight-paned glazed doors

• Sliding doors are often used where there is restricted room for the doors to open fully or where the gap would make the door width overly wide.

• Typically used as moveable partitions for dividing rooms

• Fixed using a combination of hinges and sliding track

• Can be hung from both ends or from just one end
