Improved surface finish,airfoil alignment andshroud extension reduceaerodynamic losses andlower fuel consumption.
The design of the high-pressure compressor
outlet guide vanes hasbeen improved to enhanceengine performance.
The new 3-D aero design high-pressure turbine, with 5%fewer blades, reduces fuelconsumption and maintenancecosts. The blades are installedon a redesigned disk. Thehigh-pressure turbine alsofeatures a new forward outerseal that reduces dirt and sandaccumulation and clogging.
Better low-pressure turbineaerodynamics improve fuelconsumption, while a 9%reduction in the number ofairfoils helps lowermaintenance costs. The disksand casing have also beenmodified with a new 3-D aerodesign that optimizes engineperformance.
