GEARS

A clock has gears that turn to move the handles on the clock.

A watch has the same concept as a clock, the gears turn to change the position of the arms on your watch.

INCLINED PLANES

Fan blades push air along the surface while the fan spins, causing force upon the air and moving it.

Stairs help us move up or down from somewhere, moving us from one place to another.

LEVERS

To turn light on, you need to switch the light switch form off to on. In doing so, the light switch is a lever.

In order to turn on the water, you must pull the handles on the faucet for the water to come out, making it a

lever.

PULLEYS

Blinds are pulled up and let down when you work with the object attached. Pulling the string on the side rises

the blinds up, making it a pulley.

Shoe laces are pulleys because pulling on the laces increases the force to keep the shoes on your feet.

SCREWS

The end of the light bulb is a screw because as you can see, the light bulb is firmly in place while the end of it

fits in the socket of the lamp.

Bolt are screws because you can drill the screw, holding it to another object resolutely.

WEDGES

A push pin is a wedge because you stick it into an object to push it onto another. The bottom pushing through and

makes an indent in an object.

A knife is a wedge because you use it to cut through food by slicing it.

WHEELS AND AXLES

Trucks on a skateboard are wheels and axles because when the wheel turns, the board moves forward and the

trucks carry your weight while moving.

A toy car is an example of wheels and axles because while pushing on the car, the wheels are distributing force on

the surface, the pressure exerted from the axle.
