A NOTE ON OUTDOOR VENUES

There are many public health considerations, not just COVID-19 related, when reopening public buildings and spaces that have been
closed for extended periods. For example, take measures to ensure the safety of your building water system. It is not necessary to clean
ventilation systems, other than routine maintenance, as part of reducing risk of coronaviruses. For healthcare facilities, additional
guidance is provided on CDC’s Guidelines for Environmental Infection Control in Health-Care Facilities.
Consult EPA’s list of approved products for use against COVID-19. This list will help you determine the most appropriate disinfectant
for the surface or object. You can use diluted household bleach solutions if appropriate for the surface. Pay special attention to the
personal protective equipment (PPE) that may be needed to safely apply the disinfectant and the manufacturer’s recommendations
concerning any additional hazards. Keep all disinfectants out of the reach of children. Please visit CDC’s website on How to Clean and
Disinfect for additional details and warnings.
Examples of frequently touched surfaces and objects that will need routine disinfection following reopening are:
• tables,
• doorknobs,
• light switches,
• countertops,
• handles,
• desks,
• phones,
• keyboards,
• toilets,
• faucets and sinks,
• gas pump handles,
• touch screens, and
• ATM machines.

Porous fabrics type seating in theatres and music venues have long been hotbeds of viral/pathogen transmittance.
If your seating is of non porus nature, cleaning is a simple task! The opposite is true for fabric/porus type surfaces suchas theatre/music venue seating. First, determine if your seating (including armrest) is suitable for a normal disinfection utilizing the non- porus methods above. Leather, pleather, vinyl type fabric seating will be far more likely to be disinfected by this method than a wool, polyester, cotton, or porus ‘breathing’ fabric type. IF you can remove a seat cover, it is best to launder with an EPA approved bleach between EVERY performance. If this is not an option, it may be best to purchase dispoable seat covers for each porous surface. Removal and replacement of these can greatly reduce the the chance of pathogens living within the fabric of a porous venue seat.
VENU-SAFE® CERTIFICATION GUIDELINES FOR EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES
Before we begin, has your venue been unoccupied for 7 days or more?
Cleaning a harder/non porous material
Cleaning a porous material
Determining what needs to be disinfected depends on the type of material!
A critical component to maintaining the health of the venue is the keeping of customers distant while they travel for requiredneeds. These needs include; bathroom breaks, food and beverage trips, throwing away refuse/garbage - and more. Make sure you place 6 foot wide social distancing markers in high traffic areas and train your staff to kindly remind customers to mind themarkers as they traverse the venue.
Post signs at tables/walls, reminding customers of venue regulations!
Customers forget to social distance on a constant an unending basis! When adult beverages enter the equation - this becomes even more evident. Have a plan to train your ushers and staff to remind customers to follow regulations or be removed from the venue.
This could make the difference between and fullblown outbreak that is linked to your venue - and a happy, healthy customer base and staff for years to come. Non-contact infrared thermometers, which are non-contact temperature assessment devices, may be used to measure a person's temperature. An elevated temperature is one way to identify a person who may have a COVID-19 or similar infection, although an infected person may be contagious without an elevated temperature or other easily detectable symptoms - these are generally known as asymptomatic carriers OR presymptomatic carriers. Customers may be become agitated when they are detected as having an abnormally high temperature. Assure them that this is a measure of public safety and (if they are coming from the outside) ask them to sit in their car or likewise isolated air conditioned room (or isolated tent with A/C specifically for this purpose) for a period of 10 minutes so that their temperature may be retaken. Consider setting a maximum temperature of entry and monitor other symptoms (running nose, watery eyes, coughing, sneezing, etc). Offer the customer a refund or voucher for an additional performance.
Inform performers and crew of social distancing guidelines upon arrival to the venue. Set aside 6 feet of performance space if possible for performers on stage. Consider eliminating the nearest ‘front row’ of the audience seating and the stage to create appropriate distance between performers and audience. It isn’t uncommon for performers and crew to sweat and expelcontaminated air from their mouth, throat, and lungs in activities like singing, dancing, playing of instruments. Like a sneeze, the distance these simple air motions creates often far exceeds the 6 foot social distancing rule. Utilize see-thru guards in front of singers microphones - or ask them to wear a mask. A face mask can reduce the amount of high frequencies entering a standard stage microphone; this is rectified by removing the POP screen internal to the microphone which will restore the singer ’s frequency range should they choose to wear a mask. Tell performers to limit headshaking or dramatic motion - if possible. If these become issues for performers, consider surrounding the stage or individual performers with plexiglass protectors OR stage wrap (similar to saran wrap type plastic).
Limit performer-performer and performer-audience contact
Consider creating an outdoor socially distant merchandising set up that follows all existing guidelines for performers and audience members to interact.

CRITICAL VENU-SAFE® CERTIFICATION GUIDELINES
Make hand sanitizer or wipes available every 15 feet of your venue
NOTE: DONT FORGET TO DISINFECT ALL MICROPHONES, BACK LINE EQUIPMENT, AND DRESSING ROOMS!
When Required, Check temperature of customers, performers, staff as they enter
Place floor distancing markers in your venue, if required.
Consult with your local governmental orders during a pandemic regarding live indoor and outdoor performances. Removing seating, tables, stools, and etc. from your venue will be a requirement of keeping the audience socially distanced by 6 feet or more. In many cases (and for small venues) this might not be an option! In which case, the venue may want to consider utilizing this plan to host several shorter events in one evening as opposed to one large event per evening. Consider hosting a 6:30, 8:30, and/r 10:00 pm truncated performance - and utilize your VENU-SAFE® Plan to promote the cleanliness of the venue between these performances to boost consumer understanding of your methodology and care for your audience.
