The unification of the European countries is not only about people

moving from one country to the other or trades being made by business people amongst the member states, but it has to do with the academics as well. This is in some way on a positive note and there is still a long way to go. In the past, not a far past but a relatively recent one, the degrees and certificates of most of the member nations were not fully recognized among themselves. This

unfortunately still happen today but in a lesser way. The whole world is getting closer and closer each day. First there had been the standardization of the levels of knowledge of Languages by the classification into A1 - A2 - B1 - B2 - C1 - C2, which is known as the CEFR (Common European Framework of References for Languages ) classifying and giving a flat evaluation of the level of language skills. The Examination bodies all over the world immediately got their certificates updated to these levels and classifications. So did the publishing companies. They immediately programmed and schedules their books’ contents to the Framework requirements. This standardization also brought about the possibility of assessing the knowledge of the language of students and working candidates without necessarily asking for physical interviews which in some cases could resort to a waste of time and energy for both students, schools,

universities. job seekers and providers. The universities all over Europe have also seized the opportunity to reduce their duties and responsibilities by relying on the standards of the Framework as a means of awarding marks to students. They would not need to teach the language anylonger but just ask the students for the types of certificate and levels necessary for the students to avoid being taught or examined. And what more, the examining bodies have signed a sort of protocol with the Ministries of these EU countries in such a way as to be able to have a full recognition of their certificates. The other great advantage of these exams and certificates is that of impartiality. The examining bodies have no interest in ‘‘helping’’ any candidate so students really have to be well prepared and know the subject and contents of the exam as expected. In most cases, the examining body sends

external examiners from abroad to test the students without staying longer avoiding collusion. They do not normally send the same examiner to the same school or institution ever again. In this way, the examiner has a free hand to be able to assess and judge the candidate without any biased mind nor can he/she be influenced by any factor around the

exam itself. So when you take your certificate to the institution or place of work there is guarantee that it is a real thing and that you really sweat to have it. The examination in English could be run by TRINITY COLLEGE or CAMBRIDGE - PET, FCE, CAE and IELTS. There may be requests for English for Special Purposes

(ESP) in Engineering, Sciences, Business etc. Other examining bodies are TOEFL and TOEIC to mention but few. Whatever you are up to in the future, you will surely need one of these certificates. They are your gateway to success.
