The program also incorporates proficiency skills training in
the areas of defensive tactics, firearms, high risk stops and
vehicle/pursuit operations.
Physical fitness is an important and regular part of the
program. Az POST requires each cadet to qualify on the
Peace Officer’s Physical Aptitude Test prior to certification.
This includes 5 timed events: 6’ solid wall climb, 6’ chain link
fence climb, 99 yard obstacle course, body drag and 500
yard run.
Upon successful completion of the academy and the Az
POST comprehensive exam, students are eligible to be
certified police officers. In addition, students earn 30
college credits from CGCC.
Chandler-Gilbert Community College offers a Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Law Enforcement Training Academy.
The Chandler-Gilbert Community College Law
Enforcement Training Academy is an intense, highly
accountable and challenging training program certified by
the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training Board
(Az POST). This 800+ hour program meets Tuesday and
Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and all day
Saturday, for 11 months. The CGCC Law Enforcement
Training Academy is emotionally, academically and
physically challenging. The academy meets Az POST
standards and includes instruction in:
• Criminal Law
• Traffic Law
• Search and Seizure
• Rules of Evidence
• Patrol and Observation
• Domestic Violence

Law Enforcement
Admission into the program Students can be sponsored by a law enforcement agency
or enroll as a non-sponsored recruit. Sponsored recruits
are required to undergo a background investigation by
their respective agency. Once completed, the agency must
submit an Arizona POST “AA” form to the Academy Director.
Non-sponsored applicants must complete the background
investigation through the academy and all costs are paid
by the applicant.
Applicants shall complete a background packet and pay
the background fee ($255.00) at the Fiscal/Cashier’s Office
of the Williams Campus to begin the process. Background
investigators will then schedule a background interview.
Upon successful completion of the interview and back-
ground checks, a polygraph will be scheduled ($200.00).
Upon successful completion of the polygraph, the applicant
will be scheduled for a medical examination ($243). The
background process takes approximately 6-8 weeks to
complete. Cost of the academy includes tuition
(Semester 1 - 17 credits and Semester 2 - 13 credits) and
lab fees. Students must also supply personal use equipment
such as a firearm, handcuffs, duty belt and uniforms. GI
benefits are available for qualified individuals.
Major Core RequirementsProgram Prerequisites
Students must earn a grade of “C” or better for all courses
in the Program Prerequisites area. + indicates course has
prerequisites and/or corequisites. Overall program
minimum G.P.A. = 2.00. Must meet AzPOST minimum
requirements for a law enforcement officer and meet any
physical requirements by the Academy Director.
