Welcome –Julie Lynn Martin-Borba, Collaborative Coordinator • Agenda review

1. Information Presentation

• Career Technical Education Program report 2013-2014 Participation Rates – Julie Lynn Martin-Borba, Grants Specialist, Ceres Unified School District

• During the 2013-2014 year, 1,531 secondary students participated in CTE courses. This represents 46% of all secondary students in grades 9-12 across the district.

• The Technology (Media Support & services) pathway boasts the highest enrollment counts of the nine CTE pathways in Ceres Unified, with 383 students enrolled in the 13-14 year.

• CTE courses are open to all secondary students. Many pathways are highly desired by students. For example, the Manufacturing Academy received over 150 applications for only 70 slots in the freshman class.

• The CAHSEE pass rates and graduation rates of CTE students are comparatively higher than those of all secondary students in the district.

• 1 to World – Technology Initiative – Chris Higle, Director, technology Services,

Ceres Unified School District • Chris presented information on the rollout of the 1to World Technology

Initiative in Ceres Unified. By August 2015, every student in Ceres unified will be issued a hand-held technology device. Students in grades K and one will be using tablets, while students in grades 2-12 will be using Google Chromebooks.

• Students will be using these devices in the classrooms and at home for instructional lessons, assignments and assessments.

• Electronic textbooks will be accessible through these devices. • Google Apps for Education will be utilized on these devices. • Safety features are in place on each device that prohibits students from

visiting in appropriate websites. • Students will receive training at the start of the 15-16 school year prior to

being issued a device. • Teachers are also receiving professional development training on these

devices, integrating them as part of the instructional process.

Supporting programs where families and children can learn and grow!

Mission Statement:


• CUSD is upgrading its network and wireless connectivity at each school site to accommodate the district-wide use of these devices.

2. Creating Community Solutions

• Ceres Unified School District K-6 Music Program – Cathy Pietanza, Program Specialist, Ceres Unified School District

• Ceres Unified is committed to providing elementary students with a visual and performing arts program.

• As a result of increased state funding, Ceres Unified is able to provide a variety of arts and music experiences for its students. 4th graders participate in choir. 5th graders can participate in beginning band. 6th graders can participate in intermediate band. Kinder through third grade students are introduced to rhythm and melody through music.

• Kinder and first graders benefit from eth Visiting Artists program provided by the Central California Art Association.

• 3rd graders attend a performance of the Sierra Chamber Opera. • 4th graders attend a performance at the Gallo Center for the Arts. • 5th graders attend an activity at the Carnegie Arts Center. • Additionally, 6th graders participate in Outdoor Education and attend a college

tour at UC Merced. • Ceres Unified is committed to providing these opportunities to all students.

3. Upcoming Events

• City of Ceres: Parks and Recreation - Cambria Pollinger The City of Ceres Parks and Recreation Department has several upcoming events.

• Love Ceres – April 18, 2015

1. Sign up online at www.LoveCeres.com 2. Many projects available. Good opportunities for community service.

• Relay for Life – April 11, 2015 1. For more information – contact Cambria Pollinger at the City of Ceres,

538-5782 • City Parks and Recreation Summer Program Schedule is being released in

April. A one page announcement will be distributed to local schools. • Public engagement meetings will be scheduled for community input for the

Ceres Parks and Recreation Master Plan. Please visit the City of Ceres website for more information.

• Concerts in the Park will resume this summer. The Voice of Ceres contest will be offered again for Ceres Youth.

• Ceres Parks and Recreation Department is seeking life guards for the summer swim program. Any person 16 years or older is eligible. Life guard certification and training will be provided by the City of Ceres.

• Ceres Youth Commission is seeking youth participants – 7th grade and up.

1. Presentación de información

• Índices de participación del Reporte del programa Carrera de Educación Técnica 2013-2014– Julie Lynn Martin-Borba, Especialista en Becas, del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Ceres

• Durante el año escolar 2013-2014, 1,531 estudiantes de la secundaria participan en cursos CET. Esto representa 46% de todos los estudiantes de la preparatoria en los grados 9-12 a través del distrito.

• La vía de tecnología (Servicios y Soporte Técnico) cuenta con los recuentos de matriculación más altos de los nueve caminos de CET en el Distrito de Ceres, con 383 estudiantes matriculados en el año escolar 13-14.

Los estudiantes del grado 5 pueden participar en clases de banda para principiantes y los estudiantes del grado 6 pueden participar en clases de banda intermedia. Estudiantes del Kínder hasta el grado 3 son introducidos a ritmo y melodía a través de la música.
