“Global Resistance”In late July (date forthcoming), the “Global Resistance” exhibition in the Museum’s spaces will unveil for the first time works by some sixty artists, brought together over the past decade. It will feature a majority of artists from the “Global South” (Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America) with a view to exploring contemporary strategies for resistance. “Global Resistance” focuses on the role of political dissent in the time of decolonialisation and the collapse of Communist ideologies after 1989, while examining contemporary re-readings of history through excavation and collective memory. In a time of turmoil and urgency, the exhibition aims to explore how such dissent helps transform thought systems and change worldviews.

2. (Re)discover the collection

The Centre Pompidou will give visitors the opportunity to (re)discover the modern and contemporary collections of the Musée National d’Art Moderne, accompanied by the Museum’s scientific staff. New, free tours called “Curators’ Favourites” will be organized for small groups. Guided by curators or assistant curators, these exceptional tours will provide an opportunity for original, insightful discussions between visitors and Centre Pompidou teams. “Masterpieces of the Collection” and “Christo and Jeanne-Claude, Paris!” tours will round out this offer of tailored tours. To book tours go to: https://billetterie.centrepompidou.fr/

3. Supporting creation

“Les Moyens du bord” (Means at Hand) The Centre Pompidou and La Villette have teamed up to invite a group of artists to create an ephemeral work in the Grande Halle spaces. Each of the artists receives assistance in order to develop his or her project. Work on the projects will be started during the month of July and continue over time. Combining utopia and practices, this initiative seeks to celebrate young creation in France and provide young artists with the means to share their work with the public. It is organized as an introduction to the creation of art of our time, an opportunity for exchange and a tribute to artists in this age of worry and necessary self- reinvention. In parallel with this project, in the Jardin de la Treille, the Ircam and Jean-Luc Hervé are developing a sound project to immerse visitors in a poetic dimension, urging them to increase their awareness of their environment.

Graphic creationThe Centre Pompidou is giving six young graphic designers the opportunity to share their creative worlds on social media. The guest designers, selected by graphic designer Pierre Vanni in order to support young creation, are Félicité Landrivon, Rozenn Voyer and Clément Faydit, Lou Buche, Ariane Delahaye, Jocelyn Charles and Pierre Andre. Typography, signs, illustrations on the theme of reopening will be displayed on Instagram: @CentrePompidouA complementary graphic format blending videos, motion design and comic strips will be featured on the Instagram account of Studio 13/16, a space dedicated to teenagers: @studio1316

4. Expanded educational offerings

Throughout the summer, the Centre Pompidou will be offering programmes to welcome young visitors and provide artistic and cultural activities, whether on site, outside the museum’s walls or online.

In partnership with the City of Paris and the Secours Populaire, the Centre Pompidou will welcome over 200 children from day camps, community centres and youth homes for workshops, visits or events. The educational programme department will also continue to offer hands-on arts activities in schools and as part of the support program developed during the lockdown period.

“6 Walls, 6 Artists”The “6 Walls, 6 Artists” operation is an invitation for young people to express themselves in the open air, to create in an outdoor setting with artists, after staying at home for so long. In partnership with the association Le M.U.R., six street artists (Treize Bis, Lor-K, Anne-Laure Maison, Eltono, Rebus and Gilbert1) will offer creative workshops in various facilities for young people during the month of July: Emmaüs Solidarité accommodation centres, child welfare homes, public housing residents etc. Six wall surfaces will be redesigned according to each artist’s individual techniques. Come join us for the inaugural step at MUR XIII (Paris 13th arrondissement) on 1 July with the artist Eltono.

“Saule and the hoopies”The travelling musical ride created by Matali Crasset for children and their parents will be making a stop in Evry-Courcouronnes (Essonne, Paris region), Place des Droits de l’Homme et du Citoyen, from 8 to 29 July 2020. A platform for expression in the form of a remarkable tree, “Saule and the hoopies”, calls for a return to working together. The ride comes to life through a pedalling system activated by the energy of the participants. The main platform thus springs to life through the effect of a musical comedy performed by everyone.

Listening... Lastly, for all audiences, to accompany the summer season, a new series of podcasts entitled, “On the Road With...” will offer a ten-episode journey to discover sites and landscapes in France that have inspired artists. Developed by France Inter’s radio-journalist Christine Siméone with curators from the Centre Pompidou, these podcasts reveal the secrets of creation hiding in these places cherished by artists. The first three episodes, which will be available from 1 July, bring listeners on a journey with Annette Messager to Berck, with Geneviève Asse to the Ile aux Moines and with Joan Mitchell to Vetheuil.

Online... The children’s studio will offer its first “tutorials” for children aged 6 and over, developed to accompany works from the collection or current exhibitions. These online tutorials give children the opportunity do art activities on their own at home, using materials and tools available around the house, such as the wrapping technique in keeping with Christo’s work or diving into colour with Matisse. Children will also be able to discover the “Incontournables” de Mon Œil ”(Mon Œil Must-Sees”) videos. The Centre Pompidou website will showcase rare films, from Calder’s Circus to Voyage dans la Lune (“A Trip to the Moon”) by Georges Méliès as well as films by contemporary artists with Boris Achour, Len Lye, Valérie Mréjen etc.
