PCGIAP-WG 3 (Cadastre)
Centre for Spatial Data Infrastructures and Land AdministrationDepartment of Geomatics, The University of Melbourne
This Project aims to gain an improved understanding of cadastre and use of ICT
in the development of both land and marine cadastres together with a strengthening of the business and
academic networks between Australia and the Asia-Pacific region.
Centre for Spatial Data Infrastructures and Land AdministrationDepartment of Geomatics, The University of Melbourne
Project AimsProject Aims
• To undertake research into the development of cadastral systems and the use of appropriate ICT and organizing two international workshops, one on benchmarking cadastral systems and one on marine administration.

• Cadastral Template website is currently maintained and run by the Centre for SDIs and Land Administration, the University of Melbourne.
• So far, 35 country reports on cadastral systems are uploaded to this website. The website will be maintained and updated on a continuous basis until 2006 under other funding arrangements and is thus available for permanent consultation.
• For easier visualisation, statistical data are also presented in graphical charts.

The second component of Project - Work plan is to improve understanding of Marine Administration-the spatial dimensions in this region.
The work and activity on this component started mainly after Okinawa conference, July 2003.
Marine AdministrationMarine Administration
• As part of PCGIAP-WG3 workplan and with the support of the Malaysian Government, WG3 met for three days in KL (4-7 May), Malaysia to discuss Administrating Marine Environment.
• 102 delegates from 11 countries participated.

Objectives of WorkshopObjectives of Workshop
• Identifying problems in the marine environment • Describing the spatial dimensions of the marine
environment in Asia and the Pacific (including a marine SDI, Cadastre and GIS)
• Issues in establishing a marine SDI in Asia and the Pacific
• Agreeing on a vision and way forward

Concepts and Principles for
Virtual Australia
Developing a Virtual Australia by uniting research and
commercial innovation in spatial information
technologies
• The main aim of this project is to develop a preliminary set of concepts, functions and principles to facilitate the development of Virtual Australia based on CRC vision.
• As part of the first year of the project, a review and analysis of current SI and SDI initiatives is being undertaken, including related developments in selected jurisdictions (VIC, NSW, WA) and at national level.
• The research outcomes of this project will provide a foundation for identifying best practice and key performance indicators to aid in the integration of jurisdictions to facilitate the development of Virtual Australia.
