Student Leadership Camp

Central Mangrove Public School student leaders will be joining with their community of schools next Wednesday to identify, encourage and develop leadership skills in our young student leaders so that they are more able to meet the challenges of their leadership roles in the year 2019. They will learn more about communication skills, leadership styles, decision making and action plans, problem solving, team building activities and peer support.

School Development Days

This year all students will finish school on Wednesday 18th December, with the following Thursday and Friday set aside for school development days. As you are aware our teachers have elected to come to school at another time to complete Professional Learning. We will be having our final Saturday training on 11 May. The focus will be on differentiating number concepts in mathematics. A guest presenter, Anita Chin will be conducting this training at Central Mangrove Public School and teachers from our local small school will be joining us on the day.

Variety’s Just Like You Variety, The Children’s Charity will be conducting workshops to our students in weeks 4 and 5. Variety’s Just Like You program is a series of free and fun disability awareness workshops, which aim to build understanding, acceptance and inclusion of those living with a disability. Over 37% of school children with a disability were reported as having difficulties fitting in socially at school. Studies from around the world have shown that more than 60% of students with disabilities are bullied. The Workshops celebrate what makes a person different through interactive activities whereby students learn that people with a disability are the same as everyone else. They are... JUST LIKE YOU!

Library News

Last term we had a very successful Scholastic Book Fair, with thanks to all our enthusiastic families. Through the Book Fair sales we earned a commission of $210, which was spent on new books for the library. We have new fiction and non-fiction books to loan. A special thank you to Ms McDonald for all the book covering she did in her own time and to Mrs Quinlan (Mrs Q) for getting all the books ready for borrowing. Covering and accessioning books is a lengthy process! Students can look out for the new books in the library this term!
