The European-University Viadrina is well -suited for intercultural learning and research due to its location on the German-Polish bor-der, the high percentage of international stu-dents and its study programs.

The Center for Intercultural Learning (CIL) was launched as part of an initiative, which included the development of an intercultu-ral skills program for the entire university. The goal was to encourage those who are related to the university to be more interculturally awa-re as well as to integrate international students better. This responds to our principle that in-tercultural communication, cooperation and integration can only thrive in an intercultural competent institution.

“Intercultural competence means learning from and together with each other, approaching new concepts and seeing the world with open eyes.“

(Nicola Meyer, intercultural peer tutor 2015/16)

Our recent publications

Our offers

• Intercultural trainings und workshops

• Intercultural counselling

• Cultural sciences seminars covering intercultural issues

Meanwhile the CIL has assumed a pioneering role as an institution that is located at the boundary between research and practice of intercultural le-arning in an internationalized university context.

Cooperation partners – Networks

• DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service)

• DFH (German-French University)

• University didactic networks

• Intercultural campus

• National universities and universities abroad

• Program “Lehren “

The CIL is a decentralized institution and co-operates internally both with faculties and the Writing Center as well as the Center for key com-petences and research-oriented learning and the International Office. We see ourselves as a skill center and part of a network, which trans-fers knowledge and communicates actively with other universities and institutions by attending conferences, training and common projects.
