OUTSTANDING, ENGAGING 21st CENTURY SCHOOL and CLASSROOMS

WHERE LEARNING IS #1! LOTS to CELEBRATE!

Ray Lawson Lions have been engaged in so many interesting activities both in and out of the classroom. It’s GREAT to

have so many involved. Be sure to check out the Student Activity Calendars. There is A LOT coming up!

OUR GOAL is Level 3, a Strong B in Reading, Writing and Math!

With the help of our families, and the daily instruction from our outstanding

teachers, we aim to achieve student success in becoming good readers, writers,

problem solvers, thinkers and awesome people. How do we achieve a strong B

across the curriculum? Practise. Teaching strategies. Practise. Review. Practise.

Learning new strategies. Praise. Encouragement. High expectations.

We live in a competitive world. At Ray Lawson we believe in helping our students

become independent and capable students and good citizens- leaders for the future. We have high expecta-

tions of all of our students and ourselves. Please continue to work with your teachers, Mrs. Standring and

Ms. Okowaza in helping your child reach these goals. They are already such awesome people- let's continue

to help them be ready for the future; independent, confident and super successful learners!

Our thanks to the many families who participated in our grade 3 and 6 EQAO Family Night. You experienced

the kinds of reading, writing and math that students are learning and need to know by the end of grade 3

and 6. It takes lots of thinking and practise. We are very proud of our students.

Excellent school attendance (and proper rest, exercise and healthy eating) helps in student success.

There are 7 to 8 lessons daily. Missing a day is missing a lot of instruction and practise.

Let’s ACE EQAO! WE CAN ACHIEVE EXCELLENCE!

THANK YOU for attending our EQAO on our FAMILY LEARNING NIGHT!

The EQAO Practice book provided is BIGGER and BETTER than EVER!

Research shows Level 3s and 4s on Grade 3 and 6 EQAO predict future success

in school.

Teachers and students will be working on sample grade 3 and 6 curriculum-

based reading, writing , problem solving and mathematics. Please stay involved...students, parents and teach-

ers working together add to student success and confidence.

Ray Lawson Me to We Leaders raise $2400.00 for homeless people in Brampton

and Visit Senior Home to bring Joy

An outstanding team of student leaders and teachers walked for the homeless in

Brampton on a Saturday night in February. This remarkable achievement adds to the

caring work of the Ray Lawson Me to We Team whose mandate is to help others who

may not be able to help themselves. This is the same team that ran the Food Drive and

Mitten Tree initiatives this year and visited a senior’s home bringing lots of joy. We'll done! Thanks for

"locking on" and helping others be successful.

THAT's the true Ray Lawson spirit! See pictures on last page.

IMPORTANT PARENT INFORMATION—ParentConnect

Online parent portal to access important student information

The Peel District School Board is excited to announce the launch of ParentConnect, an online parent portal to access important student information. The pilot program was introduced at select schools and phased in to all Peel schools on Feb. 23, 2018. What is ParentConnect? ParentConnect is a safe and secure website, created by the Peel District School Board, that acts as a single point to stay informed and to access all electronic services provided to Peel board parents and legal guardians. The parent-friendly website will allow you to:

view school-based alerts and information

access real time absence reporting

view current and historic elementary report card information

get up-to-date busing information

review secondary school credit history and diploma status and more

To learn more about the benefits of ParentConnect, visit our school website or www.peelschools.org/parentconnect

IMPORTANT CHANGES coming to SafeArrival system in May 2018

The Peel District School Board is currently using the SafeArrival system by Synervoice Technologies. As Synervoice has been sold to West Communications, there will be slight changes to our SafeArrival system and how you will re-port your child’s absence from school. The phone number to report your child’s absence will stay the same, but there are a few other changes.

Beginning May 14, 2018, all elementary school parents/guardians need to report their child’s full-day ab-sences, late arrivals and/or early departures from school via our new School Messenger SafeArrival system.

The phone number will stay the same: 1-855-209-6155

Website has changed to: go.schoolmessenger.ca

Download a new app: School Messenger App (from Google or Apple) (please be sure to delete the old Safe Arrival app after May 11)

Please continue to use our current Synervoice system until Friday, May 11, 2018. The new School Messenger SafeAr-rival will be live on Monday, May 14, 2018. Important to note: The transition to a new company and system will require parents to set up a new account with School Messenger SafeArrival as data will not be transferred from the old system to the new. More information on how and when to set-up your new account will be coming in the next month.

Offence Declaration required for returning volunteers Parents play an important role in the development and education of their children and in the success of the school community. At (insert name of school), we welcome and encourage the participation of parents and community members, and are grateful for the countless hours our volunteers contribute throughout the school year. To volunteer at our school, you must complete a short interview and a criminal record check. A criminal record check is required for all school volunteers in Ontario. Even if you want to accompany your child on a field trip, you need this record check. Once you have completed the process, you are on file with the Peel District School Board as being a school volunteer. All returning volunteers will receive an Offence Declaration form that must be filled out and returned to the board office each year. Completing the Offence Declaration will ensure that you can continue volunteering in the next school year. Expect to receive the form in mid-February.
