Our programs allow you to dive deeper into particular subject areas, to truly challenge yourself, and to gain the extra knowledge that puts you at the forefront of your field.

• All practical sessions have a reduced number of delegates, thus providing each individual plenty of “hands-on” time and opportunities to practice the taught techniques.

• During the theoretical session the speakers present the lectures and by the end of the day provide an interactive discussion of a clinical case.

• Webinars are online sessions with the duration of one hour.

Our Fast Track courses are one or two day courses that are run over one weekend. These courses cover topics such as wound reconstruction, beginner orthopaedic surgery, ultrasound and emergency techniques in small animal practice. These are a great introduction to these topic areas and will ensure enhanced confidence in providing these services in your practice.

Our programs are run by experts in their fields and you can choose from a great variety of Modular programs, Fast Track courses or, if you have a specific interest that you want to explore, you can participate in individual modules.

The Modular programs run for one to two years and typically include theoretical as well as practical modules. We complement our face-to-face sessions with online content to make it easier to fit it around your busy schedule. After registration and from about 30 days before the program starts you will have access to our Learning-Management-System (LMS), where you can read the lecture notes before each module, complemented with journal articles, images and recorded webinars. We test your knowledge before and after each session and also ask you to reflect on your skills and set yourselves goals, to guarantee the best possible outcome for each individual. Our premodular surveys also help our speakers gauge the level of the group and adapt their teaching content to match delegate’s needs.

Eyelid and corneal surgery

INTRODUCTION:

SPEAKER(S): Dr Guy Clare MA BVSc CertVOphthal

This 2-day practical course will give delegates the opportunity to discuss and perform ophthalmic surgery. The anatomy and physiology of the cornea, eyelids and 3rd eyelid will be reviewed and consideration given to the conditions affecting these areas, including those associated with breed related conformation. The surgical techniques to correct entropion and ectropion, resect eyelid neoplasms, perform keratectomies and placing conjunctival grafts will be discussed in detail. Delegates will then spend ample time practising these procedures in a supervised practical session.

By the end of this course delegates should have an understanding of: The spectrum of congenital, developmental and conformation related disorders of the eyelids that require surgical correction; The aetiology, diagnosis and management of third eyelid conditions; Corneal anatomy, physiology and wound healing; The types of corneal repair and reconstruction, including direct suturing, conjunctival grafts and corneo-conjunctival transposition; The surgical procedures for use on the cornea, such as grid keratotomy, superficial keratectomy and removal of foreign bodies.

Laparoscopic Bitch Spay

INTRODUCTION:

SPEAKER(S): Dr Martin Havlicek MVDr FACVSc

The benefits of minimally invasive surgery are self evident and the procedure is well received, indeed sought out, by clients. Many clinics already own flexible endoscopy equipment and thus have much of the basic equipment (light source, suction, camera, monitor etc) necessary for rigid endoscopy and laparoscopy. Additional equipment and training, and therefore expense, is required to perform laparoscopy. Most surgeons starting laparoscopy would consider the bitch spay as the core procedure and main reason for investing in the equipment. After all it is a routine procedure performed almost

daily which generates the revenue funding the equipment and also providing sufficient practice to allow expansion of the vet’s repertoire to include more advanced techniques.

By the end of this course participants should have an understanding of: Equipment required for laparoscopy; Instrument handling techniques; Basic laparoscopic principles; Principles of electrosurgery and haemostasis; Laparoscopic ovariectomy; Laparoscopic ovariohysterectomy.

2 day course Sydney, 13/14 August 2016 A$ 1639 (including GST)

Next steps in orthopaedic surgery

INTRODUCTION:

SPEAKER(S): Dr Ralph Webster BVSc, MANZCVS (SAS)

In this highly practical two day course you will improve your skills in surgical stabilisation of common fractures of the foreand hindlimb. In step by step guided hands on sessions you will gain confidence in repairing fractures of the scapula, humerus, radius, metacarpus, pelvis, femur and tibia by applying pins, plates and screws. You will use external fixation to repair fractures of the radius, tibia, humerus and femur. By the end of this course delegates should have an

understanding of: Fracture healing; Patient assessment and fracture planning; Indications for internal (pins, plates and screws) versus external fixation (linear frames); How to fix common fractures of the forelimbs (scapula, humerus, radius/ulna, metacarpus) by internal and external fixation; How to fix common fractures of the hindlimbs (pelvis, femur, tibia and tarsus) by internal and external fixation; Dealing with common complications of fracture repair.

Echocardiography and thoracic ultrasound

Feline internal medicine and ultrasonography

INTRODUCTION:

INTRODUCTION:

SPEAKER(S): Dr John M. Angles BVSc, BSc(Vet), MVS, PhD, MANZCVS, DECVIM-CA

SPEAKER(S): Dr Lisa Singer VMD, DipACVIM

This course aims to provide delegates with the knowledge to achieve standard echocardiographic views in dogs including right and left side views and M mode. The common artefacts which may be confused with cardiac pathology will be covered and an overview of the changes seen in common acquired and congenital cardiac disease in the dog and cat will be illustrated. The theory of Doppler will be introduced and its application in acquired and congenital disease. Normal Doppler findings will be discussed. Changes associated with hypertension, anaemia, hyperthyroidism and other systemic disease that can cause echocardiographic changes will be

covered. The course has a high practical content and there is plenty of opportunity to practise the taught techniques. By the end of this course delegates should have an understanding of: Machine set up and recording of thoracic images; Normal ultrasonographic anatomy of the thorax; Ultrasonographic diagnosis of diseases of the thoracic wall, pleural cavity and mediastinum; Spectral Doppler echocardiography; Colour-flow Doppler echocardiography; Echocardiographic diagnosis of acquired and congenital heart disease; Two-dimensional and M-mode echocardiography.Includes practical ‘hands-on’ scanning.

This two-day practical course presents delegates with case studies in which ultrasound is used to assist with the diagnosis of feline medical conditions. Emphasis is placed in using ultrasonography as an additional tool in the work-up of medical cases. Delegates will learn where ultrasound is able to confirm a diagnosis and where the absence of changes

visible upon ultrasonography does not rule out a particular disease. Sensitivity and specificity of abdominal ultrasound for each of the most common diseases in cats will be discussed as well as the correlation of sonographic findings with clinical presentations. Both days include practical ‘hands-on’ scanning.

wordWhat an amazing course, the best I have ever attended. Recommending your courses left right and centre!Ellene Rossouw (SA), WOUND RECONSTRUCTION

It is two weekends into the Improve Diagnostic Imaging program and I now know what all the buttons do on my machine . Even though my machine is an old human “Philips HD 5000” I am getting much better images and therefore am becoming more confident and enthusiastic when investigating abdominal problems. Learning ultrasonography requires regular practice and a recurring mixture of theory and workshops. The Improve Diagnostic Imaging program is delivering this objective.David Larratt (NSW), DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING

I realised after the first module how much knowledge gaps there are despite being a fairly experienced and competent surgeon. It is a great guide towards doing the Membership exams, providing a more modular approach to a very broad subject area. The course is well organised and the lectures are great. Great course, well worth the monies! Claudia O’Connell (WA), SMALL ANIMAL SURGERY
