CD Cover Analysis

Page 2: Cd Cover Analysis

This is really eye catching but at first you can’t make out what it’s saying. This is a ploy to make you look closer at it.

It’s got a lot of bright colours which would make it more suited to young people.

The use of the alphabet works with the bands name as they’re called Alphabeat so without you realising you link the band to this album cover.

The fact it’s the alphabet makes it seem younger which gives you an idea of the people who will listen to it. The font used it bold and easy to read which makes it stand out

The fact it’s wacky and different from other CD covers will attract it’s target audience as they’d want to listen to something different and fun.

Alphabeat – This Is Alphabeat

Page 3: Cd Cover Analysis

This album cover is quite artistic which suits the band who write meaningful lyrics. It’s really surreal as well which will appeal to the people who enjoy the genre of music this band are from.

The fact the band aren’t on the front cover shows it’s a lot more about the music for them than it is anything else. They were also quite well known by this album so they didn’t need to have a picture of them on the CD cover because their name was well known

You can see it’s aimed at an older age group than Alphabeat but still not older generations. It seems a bit more grown up but the fact it’s got a cut out moon makes it seem a bit childish still.

The font for the name of the band looks like it could be hand written which makes the CD seem more personally and from the band rather than just produced for them by a record label.

Fall Out Boy – Infinity On High

The simplistic colours on this album cover is made to make the name of the band stand out as this was there first big release so needed people to remember their name.

The glasses on the little alien shows the style of the band, because as a fan of Hellogoodbye I know that they’re geeks who write songs about never being lucky in love.

This album cover is really surreal which makes it stand out from the others when you buy it. It makes it stand out against the other covers and would really appeal to it’s target audience.

The simplistic drawing looks like it could be hand-drawn which makes it look youthful as it is quite a childish style of drawing, making it seem fun. The fact it’s been drawn makes it seem more personal because the band could have drawn it.

Hellogoodbye – Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs!

This album cover looks like it could be out of a cartoon which would appeal to a certain audience, which is the audience that would enjoy this kind of music

This album cover gives the impression the band don’t take themselves to seriously which is something teenagers like in a band.

They use primary colours as they are bold and would be more eye catching. They use a lot of green, the connotation of the colour green is it is usually used to show jealousy, which fits with quite a few of the songs on the album.

The name of the band is the main focus of this cover. This was important as they were only a little band and wouldn’t have been very well known so they would want the buyer to remember their name.

Go:Audio – Made Up Stories

The name of the band and the album is the only block of white on the cover, this draws your eye to it first.

The main focus of this album cover is the lead singer. She does have a band but you’re meant to focus on her not them. Her pose is confident and the fact she’s looking down at us gives the idea that she is important

The white background and the yellow/gold of the singer contrasts with each other and makes her stand out. This album cover has a colour scheme that is very bright and young colours.

The use of yellow and gold makes it seem like a spotlight is shining on her making it clear she’s important. It could also give the impression that it’s been taken during a performance which makes it look more interesting.

The pose she is pulling is quite seductive and would appeal to a male audience.

VV Brown –Travelling Like The Light

This has obviously been edited on Photoshop by using a gold/yellow filter and the lasso tool to cut out the background and paste her onto a while background. This is very simple to do but makes quite an effective photo that is more interesting than a normal unedited one.
