What can we all agree on to make sure the next two days are useful, productive, and help start the year off right? 2:30-3:30 Common Core State Standards Instructional Shifts Jigsaw 3 Instructional shifts Glossary of terms Chart paper o Explain the shift o Note what instructional strategies are already being used @ Ogden that support the shift. o What needs to be added or changed to address the shift? Present to rest of team. 3:30-4:15 Identifying Quarter Standards and Scaffold Standards Quarter Standards: Skills that will take 10 weeks for students to obtain mastery. Scaffold Standards: Skills that need to be constantly taught in order to master by year’s end. Examples (Grade 9): L.1 vs. L.2 / W.1 vs. W.6 Working in pairs, ID standards for your grade level. 4:15-4:30 Break 4:30-6:00 Create Grade Level Standards Map CCSS/CPS Benchmark Standards Knowing our students, where do you need to begin? What standards build off of one another? standards for Q1. o Plan texts and writing assignments that comply with the

literacy-planning guide.

• With a partner • Steps to take:

o Have new standards map on hand (on computer or print) o Walk partner through the unit, focusing specifically on end

of unit task. o Explain new CCSS standards for quarter one including CPS

benchmarks. o Work with partner to tweak, add, or change end of unit task

to reflect new standards. o Work backwards with partner to find texts, writing

assignments, and research options that comply with the literacy-planning guide.

o Switch roles with partner. 5:00-6:00 Dinner 6:00-7:00 Share newly aligned unit with another department member.

• Find someone who you haven’t yet worked with and take them through your new literacy planning guide and assessment.

• Ask for critical feedback on how to improve planning, the assessment, or how to more closely align to quarter standards.

• Switch roles. • Email completed Literacy-Planning Guides to Collin

7:00-8:00 Share units with entire department. • What are you walking away with to use in the first quarter? • What worked about this process? • What can be improved?
