What methods are most effective?
• Small group work/breakouts
• Using a variety/combination of methods
• Modeling/demonstrating/role playing
• Sharing experiences
“To ensure that we meet all of our learners
needs, we provide many learning opportunities
from lectures (no more than 20 minutes
switching pace), games, videos, small group
breakouts. We have found that providers learn
best when interacting and sharing their own
experiences in share-outs.”
“Building a relationship with providers has been the
most effective way we have found for learning. Meeting
providers where they are at in their career path. We
email providers hand outs and resources prior to the
trainings. We call providers that may need more TA.”

OTHER THAN LANGUAGE WHAT ARE SOME CULTURAL
CONSIDERATIONS FOR YOUR TRAININGS?
15
• Accessibility: financial, technology, special needs/disabilities
• Respecting different religious and cultural holidays and observations
• Male caregiver perspective
• Trauma/intergenerational trauma
• Cultural beliefs on discipline, nutrition/food, immunizations, timeliness, disease,
healing
• Promoting cultural inclusivity in the child care setting
“With virtual training, we have had to be respectful of the fact
that some want to receive the training, but not on camera as
they don't want their private space seen. We have offered Racial
Justice, and Trauma Informed Care this year which have been
well received; we did a Winter Traditions around the world
workshop which was "light" but we plan to go deeper next year.”
“We serve a diverse community who are of different
religions and cultural backgrounds. Trainers are mindful
to be respectful and inclusive, ensuring all are able to
participate. When planning trainings, facilitators include
a Cultural Training curriculum and discuss different
cultural backgrounds and experiences. We found this to
be an effective way to learn about each other.”

Technology challenges: internet connectivity, using a new application, having the

Initially it was challenging, but then everyone became comfortable, and it became
easy and normal.
Overall, virtual trainings increased participation and removed barriers.

“We are so very impressed by those we
serve. Our team worked hard with
groups and individuals to build skills that
allowed continued connection and access
to virtual training. It wasn't easy but
it was NOWHERE near as difficult as
we might have imagined.”
“The providers really
enjoyed joining zoom. The
providers were happy they
were not away from their
family long before the
training and long after the
training. They did not need
to travel.”
“Initially, it was somewhat difficult as we
had to learn Zoom, etc, as well as support
providers in learning it, too. We believe we
have done quite well in adjusting, and have
found providers to be engaged and
appreciative of the flexibility that virtual
training provides.”
“Most of our trainings had a few more
participants than pre-pandemic because people
found it easier to participate. Some came to
multiple trainings for the first time ever,
despite being in business for a long time, due to
the ease of virtual. In our county, just a few
more participants compared to before is
remarkable.”
