A fun and engaging acting workshop for key stages one to three that explores a variety of

acting techniques and styles that are used in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . The workshopis adaptable for different ages, using the accessibility of the characters from the musical as thevehicle for extended acting exercises designed to develop vocal and physical performance skills.

The session aims to explore and improve participants’ focus, ensemble work and imaginationas participants become the five children who visit Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory.

A Charlie and the Chocolate Factory  warm-up begins the session and introduces a common languageof physicality and voice. Working both individually and in groups, participants start to explorethe different archetypes of the five children from the story, transforming themselves into each

different character physically and vocally. Using their acting and improvisational skills, thesecharacters meet in various improvisations, developing their characters and their relationshipwith others in the story.

In contrast, participants then explore the character of Charlie Bucket. Using age-appropriatecharacter exercises from theorists such as Artaud and Stanislavsky, participants develop theirskills in naturalistic performance and their understanding of the contrasting styles which anyperformer requires.

• Group size 15-30 • 2 hours • Recommended for KS4-5This advanced drama workshop challenges participants to develop their physical and vocalperformance skills through in-depth exploration of a scene from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory .

The workshop begins with a discussion on the directorial approach to the production, with

a focus on the development and portrayal of the adult characters. Following a Charlie and the

Chocolate Factory  warm-up, participants will use exercises from the rehearsal room to createtheir characters in their bodies and voices.

Using a scene from the script, participants will explore character, subtext, objective and action.

The scene in the Bucket household allows for the development of naturalistic methods whichfeature in the production. Participants work with the facilitator to delve into their characters,exploring physicality, voice and objective, while developing the performance skills required toeffectively realise the characters.

This dynamic and challenging workshop aims to bring exercises directly from the Charlie and the

Chocolate Factory  rehearsal room to participants, encouraging them to extend their acting abilities,and understanding of the diverse skills required to perform on the West End stage.

• Group size 15-30 • 2 hours • Recommended for KS1-5An exploratory workshop which is adaptable for any age. Participants will work on a varietyof songs from the show, experimenting with the diverse musical styles that are included in theaward-winning production.

Following a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory  vocal warm up, participants learn a song from theshow. A detailed technical rehearsal is followed by an exploration of the musical style, storytellingand characterisation that influence the performance. Participants’ vocal techniquesare developed through the session, which will allow for both ensemble and solo singing.

The complexity of the arrangements can be adapted basedon the age, experience and confidence of the group.

This workshop can be tailored to all levels of experience.

This fun workshop is a unique opportunity to glimpse the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory  rehearsal process as participants develop their physical dance skills and create their ownOompa-Loompas!

Participants work together in pairs to learn one of the special ways that the performers worktogether in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory . Creating their own Oompa-Loompa, they

are encouraged to use their imagination to create their own character and to use the devisingtechniques from the rehearsal room to develop their own unique way of moving andacting together.

Once physicality has been created, participants begin to introduce choreography and dance intotheir repertoire. Participants rehearse the dance steps carefully in their own bodies while workingclosely together in their pairs. This is a fun and challenging exercise, inviting participantsto understand how their movement and physicality tells the audience about their characterand their story in an entirely new way. The routines developed are rehearsed and shared atthe end of the session.

An exclusive opportunity to gain an insight into the development and rehearsal process behindthese unique characters, this workshop introduces participants to a new way of moving and

dancing to add to their dance practice and physicality.

The workshop is an exclusive opportunity to develop dance skills across genres,using contrasting pieces from the show to challenge participants to develop their dance abilitiesand their understanding of the range of skills required to be a performer.

The workshop begins with a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory  physical warm-up. Participantsare then taken through the steps of contrasting songs from the show, understanding theimportance of every movement in furthering the story. No movement is extraneous, and eachone has an intention and a meaning behind it.

This detailed rehearsal process reflects the experience of the auditions for the show, and givesparticipants an insight into the professional world of musical theatre. The workshop will buildtowards a sharing of the pieces, and participants will gain valuable feedback from the practitionerthroughout the session to help them develop their performance.

• Group size 15-30 • 2 hours • Recommended for KS1-5A dynamic, multi-disciplined workshop which develops participants’ confidence in musical theatreperformance, focusing on singing, acting and dance as we stage one of the scenes from the show.

Beginning with a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory  vocal warm-up, participants learn a song,developing vocal technique and focusing on clarity and intonation to ensure the story is told wellthrough singing. Developing individual characters is central to the performance, so participantsthen work on exploring their character’s physicality for the scene.

The focus for the session will then be staging and choreography, in particular how this helps to tell

the story of the scene. Every movement their character makes has an intention, a story behind it.Participants explore this in their own characters, and how their relationship to the ensemble andthe principals help the audience understand the scene. All of this is put together and rehearsed,with the workshop culminating in a sharing of the full scene.

This workshop is designed to introduce participants to the multi-faceted performance skillsrequired to perform in a production like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory , and enable themto reach their potential in musical theatre through sharing professional exercises andrehearsal techniques.

Using different imagination and drama-based exercises, pupils are asked to imagine their ownGolden Ticket moment, using the structure, stories and characters of Charlie and the Chocolate

Factory  to help them imagine their own amazing story.

During the workshop, pupils will explore their own story beginning, problem and resolution,using fun and accessible drama activities. The workshop is an opportunity to extend your pupils’

experience of ROALD DAHL’s book and the performance itself, and is a great way of inspiringnew stories and enhancing pupils’ creative writing skills.
