PRESIDENT’S CORNER Hello to Everyone,

It is that time of year when we are all bustling and scurrying about getting parcels wrapped, cards addressed and wishing family, friends and neighbours good cheer. I too join in the festive mood. On behalf of your Division Board I extend to you all our very best wishes for this Christmas season and the New Year of 2013.. It has been a great year, 2012 and we are very proud of our accomplishments -

membership drives—White Cane week events - The 2012 CCB Provincial A.G.M.

The Cruise Lottery raffle To name just a few of our achievements. I do believe, however, our greatest success is the return of Abbotsford to membership in the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB). Please join me in giving a warm welcome aboard. Next year already promises to bring new challenges and further success. Especially with the holding of the 2013 Conference & Annual General Meeting to be held in Parksville, Vancouver Island. All this, together with the Terry Kelly Concert. I am hoping that each and every Chapter is planning to send a delegate (& guide) and participate in what will be an extravaganza of a meeting and enjoyable time. In the meantime, do please remember your Division Board is available to you, for any of your questions or concerns. Patience may sometimes be necessary, considering all our busy lives and responsibilities. Enjoy the holiday and celebrate safely.

CORNER

We will not forget

Each November 11th stand at our local cenotaph to remember and honour those who fell and gave their lives to give us freedom and democracy. I know all about this day as my owner, Mr. Bill explained to me why I must sit still for 2 minutes of silence and must not move. As I sat, with my nose at the edge of the curb, getting all psyched up to be actually STILL the following occurred: As the bugler completed his tune and the 2 minute silence began there came the sound of a single bark—sounded like a German Shepherd. When this happened it reminded me of who I should be remembering and be thankful for… those many dogs who have been there helping as hands, legs and eyes. As eyes for the blind, ears for the deaf and as protectors for those with both mental and physical difficulties. AND THERE IS, of course BUDDY .. The first seeing eye dog trained in the Alps, Switzerland. For without him, us canines would not be performing our jobs today. We are honoured by providing both independence and freedom to a great many Canadian citizens. As I remain very still I remember REBA, HARRIS, AMOS, ASTRO, GRANT & CASEY, the six canines that have preceded me as the eyes for Mr. Bill. All of a sudden there was a single dog bark just as the Bagpipes started to sound ending the two minutes of silence. This brought me back to my senses and to the excitement of the day, the commands, speeches, wreath placing, followed by march past, when all over it was off to Mr. Bill’s favourite watering hole and where I got H2o with rocks

Let us Remember

Christmas is very soon here a time of lots of excitement and many smells. All dog owners please do be very careful of your pet’s tender tummies and not overfeed us. Keep those candy boxes,

chocolates and other sweeties well out of reach of curious noses.

Another barking tale coming to you in the New Year Meanwhile

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEAR
