    7. What happens when an aqueous solution of sodium sulphate reacts withan aqueous

    solution of barium chloride? State the physical conditionsof reactants in which the reaction

    between them will to take place.Write the balanced chemical equation for the reaction and

    Solution:

    When aqueous solution of sodium sulphate reacts with aqueous barium chloride it results in

    formation of barium sulphate (BaSO4) along with the formation of white precipitation,

    visualized physically. Such type of reaction involves displacement of two molecules so called

    as double displacement reaction.

    Reactions which form white precipitation are called precipitation reaction, these are insoluble components.

    Obtaining biogas from biomass:

    Biogas is produced by decomposing cow dung, vegetable waste, sewage and plant residue

    after harvesting in a dome like structure without the presence of oxygen, it is popularly

    known as gobar-gas. Mixture of cow-dung and water is fed into a closed chamber fordigestion by anaerobic micro-organism which generates methane, carbon dioxide, hydrogen

    and hydrogen sulphide.

    Advantages of biogas:

    a) Excellent fuel as it contains up to 75% methane

    Solution:

    Solenoid can be defined as a coil of many circular turn of insulated copper wire wrapped in

    cylindrical structure. The lines inside the solenoid are parallel and straight, indicating uniform

    magnetic field. Strong magnetic field inside the solenoid can be used for magnetizing soft

    iron when placed inside the coil.

    the motion in magnets stops deflection becomes zero.

    13. At what distance should an object be placed from a convex lens of focal Length 18 cm to

    obtain an image at 24 cm from it on the other side. WhatWill be the magnification produced

    in this case?

    Given that,

    Focal length f = 18

    Image distance v =24

    From the lens formula, 1/v 1/u = 1/f (where u = object distance)

    or 1/u =1/v 1/f

    Alkenes and Alkynes

    Saturated hydrocarbon can be produced by adding hydrogen withunsaturated hydrocarbons in

    the presence of nickel. The reaction is completed by using nickel acts as a catalyst.

    On hydrogenation, unsaturated fatty acid which is liquid at room temperature will change into

    solid and saturated, after completing reaction.

    Metals which are refined differently depending upon the reactivity. Metals which are very

    reactive can be obtained by electrolytic reduction which involves oxygen e.gsodium,

    magnesium, calcium,aluminium, etc.

    Most important method for refining impure metals is electrolytic refining; this process is used

    to refine copper, zinc, nickel, silver, gold etc. Here impure metal is kept in anode while a thin

    section of pure metal is kept at cathode dipped in electrolytic solution. On passing the current

    pure metal from anode starts to dissolve in the solution, subsequently gets deposited on

    cathode, while the impurity remains dissolved into the solution while solid impurity remain

    settled at the bottom, the anode mud.

    Lets consider current I flowing through resistance R, potential difference across is V, t istime during the charge Q flowing across.

    Work done for moving Q through V = VQ

    The power input in t time is = VQ/t =VI

    Energy supplied to the circuit by the source in time t is P * t,i.eVIt

    For steadycurrent I, the amount of heat H produced in time t is H= VIt

    Using ohms law the equation H = I2RtThis is known as Joules law of heating.

    Numerical: We know H = I2Rt, H can be written as P * t

    So, H = 12 * 60 = 720 J

    Explain with the help of a labelled circuit diagram how you will find theresistance of a combination of three resistors, of resistance R1, R2 and R3 joined in parallel. Also mention how you will connect the ammeter and the voltmeter in the circuit when measuring the current in the circuit and the potential difference across one of the threeresistors of the combination.

    It is conclude that reciprocal of the equivalent resistance of a group of resistances joined in parallel is equal to the sum of the reciprocals of the individual resistances.

    In parallel combination XY connect the circuit with battery, key and ammeter while putvoltmeter in parallel to the resistors.For calculating individual resistance plug ammeter andvoltmeter from circuit, insert ammeter in series with resistance R1 as given in figure and notereading in ammeter I1.

    Green dots appearing on the leaf peels is cellular organelles called chloroplasts which contain

    Biological magnification is the process of accumulation of harmful chemicals in the body

    tertiary consumers.

    Autotrophs are responsible for producing food with the help of sunlight and it absorbs

    nutrients, water and minerals which is available for heterotrophs as secondary consumer

    through food chain, which is then eaten up by tertiary consumer the human being. The

    chemicals gets accumulated at each level.

    27. Explain the process of digestion of food in mouth, stomach and small intestine in human body.

    Mouth

    Human being at hungry state eats various kinds of food so that hunger can be minimized.

    Whatever food we eat it has to be processed and crushed into small particle by teeth for

    proper absorption of minerals and movement of food in the food pipe. The food we eat gets

    mixed with saliva released from salivary gland which contain essential enzyme called

    salivary amylase which mainly involves the breakdown of starch, a complex mixture of

    sugar. Food mixed with saliva is then passed to the stomach for further digestion by the

    process called peristalsis.

    Stomach

    The food then moves to the stomach where muscular wall helps in mixing of food with more

    digestive juice secreted by gastric glands present in its walls. It release hydrochloric acid and

    creates acidic medium helping pepsin to function properly. Food is then forwarded to small

    intestine by a pour guarded by sphincter muscles.

    It is the longest part of alimentary canal, which is compacted in such a way that it doesntlooks like the longest part of alimentary canal. It is the site for digestion of carbohydrate,

    fat droplets by emulsification, finally enzymes convert theproteins to amino acids, complex

    (b) Describe an experiment to show that sunlight is essential for photosynthesis.

    (a) Three most important steps of photosynthesis is-

    i. Absorption of light energy by chlorophyll

    ii. Conversion of light energy to chemical energy and splitting of water molecules into

    hydrogen and oxygen

    iii. Reduction of carbon dioxide to carbohydrates

    Stomata are present in enormous amount over leafs, this tiny pores helps in the exchange of

    gaseous by photosynthesis. Since large amount of water can also be lost through these

    stomata, the plant closes these pores when it does not need carbon dioxide for photosynthesis,

    opening and closing of pours is regulated by guard cells, it swell up when water flows inside

    them, causing the stomatal pore to open. Similarly the pore closes if the guard cells shrink.

    (b) Experiment to prove that sunlight is essential for photosynthesis

    i. Select two healthy plants.

    ii. Keep them in a dark room for 3 days.

    iii. Now place them in different air tight chambers, one supplied with potassium

    hydroxide, which is used to absorb carbondioxide.

    iv. Now keep the plants in sunlight for 2 hr.

    v. Pluck leaf from both plants and check the presence of starch.

    vi. Higher starch content in the jar with potassium hydroxide indicate that in the presence

    of light the photosynthesis have occurred so higher starch content is found.
