Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. • "FOOTY RECORD" - 1999

Hope the Wagga Tigers enjoyed their trip to Griffith last Sunday (last week's editorial ) - more than the Swans enjoyed the trip to Robertson

Oval. Someone obviously nobbled the Editor's pen.

The participants in the Saturday games last week surely enjoyed the weather conditions more than the Sunday ones as the big WET set in. The Temora Kangaroos bounced back and showed a bit of a spark at Nixon Park in accounting for the Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions by 32 points. the Kangaroos got the jump at the start and were never headed. The Turvey Park Bulldogs made it three in a row as they blitzed the Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes by 24 goals at the Mangoplah Sportsground.

On Sunday the Coolamon Grasshoppers produced a typical gutsy effort at home at Kindra Park to clip the Hawk's wings in miserable conditions. The Hawks, after flying high for six weeks, have hit an air-pocket and it will be interesting to see how they respond to the challenges in the coming weeks. The Leeton/Whitton Crows also produced a top effort at home when they withstood the Narrandera Eagles in the "friendly neighbourhood clash" of the Big Birds at Leeton. The Crows won by 15 points in a real mud wrestle to secure second spot on the ladder. Wagga Tigers were too slick for the

Griffith Swans on a very slippery Robertson Oval and remain undefeated on top of the ladder.

Round Nine this weekend once again holds a lot of interest with some potentially even match-ups to be decided. The East Wagga

Kooringal Hawks V the Wagga Tigers at Gumly Gumly will be a ripper. The Hawks will be smarting after a couple of hick-ups in recent

weeks and would dearly love to be the first team

to knock over the Tigers this year. The Narrandera Eagles are better than their last

outing suggested as their forward line was shut down in the wet by the Crows. They have an excellent opportunity to test themselves this week on the spacious Narrandera

Sportsground when they tangle with the Coolamon Grasshoppers. The Hoppers had an emphatic win over the Hawks last week and have only been beaten once this year. Victories have been scarce for the Ganmain Grong Grong Matong Lions this year and the chance of securing four points against the Leeton/ Whitton Crows is about as likely as a Collingwood premiership in 1999. The Lions will lift at home but the Crows will feast on the carcass. Turvey Park will be at home at Maher Oval when they take on the Temora Kangaroos. Both teams had important victories last week and MUST keep winning to keep their "finals fires flickering." The Bulldogs have had their share of setbacks while the Kangaroos have been a bit inconsistent. The result is in the balance. The final game will take place at the Exies Oval where the Griffith Swans will welcome the Mangoplah-Cookardinia United Eastlakes Goannas. Both teams have had some diabolical results this season and the Goannas are still searching for a win. The Swans may disappoint them yet again.

Next weekend there will be a general bye in the Riverina Football League as the RFL will travel to Campbelltown on Saturday June 12th to challenge the Sydney Football League for the State Championship. The first game at 1 pm will feature a Riverina Under 18 representative team who will play against a SFL Under 18 side. The main game will commence at 3pm. Good Luck to the respective coaches Wayne Carroll and Russell Durnan and all the players. Give 'em heaps!!

GANMAIN-GRONG GRONG-MATONG I~l()NS Another disappointing effort against Temora

when we had our chances to win but couldn't go on with it. Shane Bloomfield, had a top game to win the Sports Club Award. Scott Lawton won the Brittons Towel Award, John Anderson the Mug with the Bridge Tavern Award to Doug Bruckner. Miltons Gear Votes: 3) S. Bloomfield, 2) J. Crozier, 1) B. Kearney.

The Reserves just failed to snatch a victory, Nathan McPherson had a good game to win the Bowling Club Award, Greg Menzies won the Club Towel, Shannon Dehl earned the Dennis and Maureen Crozier Dinner, Aaron Talbot the six pack and the Mug to Nathan McPherson.

The Under 18s had a big win, with Jason Turner who never stops running all day, winning the Club Towel, Adam Symons winning the Four Hotels Award and the Socks to Adam Ferguson. The Supporters Award went to Carl Smith.

Congratulations to Brent Harvey son of former Lions player, Neil Harvey on being awarded the Whitton Medal for best player in the VIC-SA clash .

Don't forget your tables for the Annual Footballers & Netballers Ball on Sat June 26.

This week we host the Leeton Whitton Crows and remember players its white shorts.

Netball notes: Juniors lack of confidence on the day lead to a loss against Temora 17-8. The girls need to look back on their last 2 games and see that playing strongly together as a team will match them against any side. The Commins & Hendriks Socks went to Alecia Corbett and the Hat to Narelle Walsh with Linda Denning being awarded the Ganmain Hotel Award. C Grade played a very disciplined game to take out another win over Temora 39-7 . Jasmine Kefford was awarded the Royal Hotel Mug and Michelle Dehl received the Ganmain Hotel Award. B Grade were convincing winners again this week defeating Temora 37-21. Rachael "Stretch" Hamblin showed great flexibility when moved from shooting to defence taking our the Ken Warren Mug and Naomi Symons played another four quarters of solid netball to get the Ganmain Hotel Award. A Grade Nadine Logan put in another strong game in defence for us to win the Sports Club Mug, while Krista Carroll was awarded the Ganmain Hotel Award for her continuing support around the court. A more disciplined game plan should see us victorious soon. Temora won this game 56-28.

LEETON-wH1rroN (~ ll() 111 S The rain finally had to come and with a

vengeance. Not the best of conditions to play football - but it is a winter sport.

Second place on the ladder was the prize for our win last week and after a slow start things finally came around in an all out slog. Matty Sharman showed how to adapt to the wet and took out the Lloyd Pilkington Shirt while Darren Atkinson was all over the ground in a great display by a big fellow in the heavy going and sure would have loved the Bushies JD bottle to warm him up again. Matty Robertson also showed that big fellows can play in the wet and will have his curly locks trimmed at Lisa Thurgate's Tresses Hair Salon (although she may have her work cut out there). Travis Irvin put in another blinder and will top his car up at John Seana's Mobil Servo; while again another big bloke Greg Bradshaw will take a little lady out to the Hydro Tavern.

The Magoos got back on the winning list with Glen Haase showing the way to win the Riverina Butchery meat tray. Jason Malone came back from injury and had a good game to take the Bushies Shirt award and Dillon Holt's 4 goals earned himself the Leeton Snack & Video award. "Loebs" Looby and Stoney McLean finished up with the Hair Odyssey and Jarrah Mall Tuckshop awards for their performances and with a bit more consistency it will not be long before the twos are back in the five.

The 18s started the day for our trifecta of wins. Young Toby Conroy played a staring match at fullforward kicking 6 goals and taking some great marks to eat out at the Carlton Cafe. Matty Currie never stopped all day and will pig out on a Jon Jay Pizza while Matty Lang will have his lunch at the Leeton Lunchbox. Brad Lynch will have some money to spend compliments of Bolton Pest Control and Ben Scroope maybe able to grow some new eyebrows back with the Fruitshack OJ.

Actually it was a great weekend all round for the Crows as the 12's, 14's, and 16's also had wins giving the club a clean sweep. Great effort from everyone.

The netball girls just missed out on the perfect score. A grade winning 47-44 with evergreen Libby Gillespie playing a fabulous game to be the Hair Traffic award winner. B grade the only blemish with a 30-12 loss with Mary McPhee visiting Mind & Body for a rub down. C grade had a 21-8 win and Laura Flagg won the Neisha's Hair award, which may have had something to do with her engagement to magoo player Wayne Jackson the day before. Congratulations to you both from the club and best wishes. The Junior girls had a close 24-23 win and Kate Conroy will eat out with Toby at the Carlton Cafe.

This week it is GGGM and a must win to stay at the top of the ladder. "Zippy" Clayton, who seems to have been playing for years, will run on for his 50th first grade game - good to see you back and have a good one Clayto.

TURVEY PARK 11111 ... 1 ... 1,,,,.s Top weekend for the Club in Seniors and

Juniors as we won all the footy and the netball , great effort! The Juniors will be playing the Dons on Maher Oval next Thursday Night, so come along and see the future of our club in action, starting time approximately 4.30pm.

In netball AG rade promised to be a very close affair, but our girls played fantastic netball to shut out Mango to record a very big win 50-25. Georgie Hargraves was fantastic to win the Bulldog Mug. B Grade was much closer in a very physical game which we won 31-27 with Renae Joyce winning the Mug. The last game was the Juniors which started very late, our girls had too much talent for the young Goannas to record a very big win 34-2, with Kate Ogden winning the Ladies Auxilary Award. The Salon on Morgan went to Jo Thomas. Come over and watch some top netball today against Temora starting with the Juniors at 1 Oam. Support our girls in what should be 4 top games.

Now to the footy, the 1 sis are certainly on a roll and edging closer to the top 5. Last week at Mango, we had 1 0 teenagers playing and they are growing in confidence each week. The Bulldogs Mug went to Darren Wallett, Haircut compliments of Smiley to Daniel Tooze, (BOG again), the Eagle Boys Pizza to Grant Bourne, the No. 96 Dinner to Blair Campbell, the Golden Seasons Dinner to Shayne Weidemann, the Miltons Gear Supporters award to Ben Harper and the Pavillion Motor Inn Players' Player to Dale Isaac.

The 2nds also recorded a very big win with Ben Rodham leading the way to win the Bulldogs Mug, The Salon on Morgan to Peter Turnbull, and in a great game back after 18 months Drew lverach won the Eagle Boys Pizza, with the Brian Field Betting Voucher going to Stuart Heine.

The 18s are back on track with a percentage boosting win. The Ladies Auxilary award went to Sam Collie, the Eagle Boys Pizza to Jamie Cooper and the Club Socks to Donno. Others to play well were Matt McClure 8 votes, Matt Carroll 3, Brenden

First of all, congrats to David "at long last" Goesch and his better half, Sharee on the birth of Brenden. At 7 pounds 9 ounces, he's fast catching up to his old man.

The 18s were beaten last week but far from disgraced. Ganmain's extra man was telling, especially after halftime. Aaron Huxtable continues to improve, Mick Dehlsen, Mick Oliver and Tim McCormack all had good games while "Big Dan" Kite was a colossus in the ruck.

The Magoos were well below their best but came from behind to score a fighting victory. Aaron Huxtable backed up from the 18s to have a blinder, bagging 4 goals and the Players' Player Award. Andrew "Sweely" Derrick had another ripper at C.H.B. to win the Mug, which went very well with his pork chops. David "Muddy Guts" Moses was impenetrable at fullback and took out the Socks, while Mark Schmidt picked up kicks all over the ground and was rewarded with the schooners.

The Ones finally broke their drought with an all the way win. Players Player went to 'Babysitter of the Year' Rob Harper, who hates it when Beck leaves his fresh socks inside out. CD was outstanding yet again, while Leigh Sweetman had his best game for several weeks. Quadey, Farmer and Flappy were all very good, while Ross Devereux should stay at fullback for the rest of the year after playing his best game of 1999. And how about his lovely haircut.

On the Social Calendar, this Thursday (June 10) is the Trivia Night at the ASL Club at 7.30pm. No doubt Snake will let us off training early for that. Next Sunday (June 13) the annual showbiz extravaganza that is "Red Faces" will be held at the Town Hall. Make sure you come along and see if Lloyd Krause can be toppled from his perch.

GRIFFITH s11r1-1NS On a miserable day the Seniors never really

got going after quarter time and were comfortably defeated in wet and heavy conditions. We had chances early, however the game was over at half time. The boys fought ii out well and the endeavour shown by some of the players was outstanding. The Awards were sponsored by Trevor Harrison and we thank him for that. The Exies Dinner was won by Paul "Blocker" Brasier with a solid game in defence, the Snuggle Inn Towel was won by youngster Paul "No frills" Kite, the Warren Lowry Award was won by ruckman Aaron "Plugger" Taylor, and the McNabb Award was won by stout defender Greg "grumpy" Dreyer.

The Reserves showed plenty of spirit with 17 players but were well beaten after a first quarter blow out. The Billabong Bottle Shop Award was won by on-baller Nick "Mr punctuality" Donnellon, the Warren Lowry Voucher was won by the courageous Corey 'The junkyard dog" Frater, and the Griffith Laundry Service Award was won by defender Luke "Heinzy" Irons. Many thanks lo the Under 18s that backed up.

The Under 18s were undermanned but battled hard in the wet to be just defeated. It was a terrific effort by the youngsters in difficult conditions. The C & P Express JDs Pizza Award was won by Under 16 player Luke Condon, the Trevor Harrison towel was won by another youngster with a big future in Dom Giorgi and the Lowes Sox were won by the dasher Paul Reed.

This weeks Player Profile is on hard running defender Grant Kelson.Nicknames: Kelso, Cowboy; Favourite Pastime: Auctioneering, drinking rum with Bunny, driving fast utes, selling sheep, listening to Lee Kernaghan; Favourite Venue: Griffith Saleyards; Favourite Song: Grandmas Featherbed; Likes: Playing Injured, Mrs Bunn's scones and cream, big belt buckles, wrangler shirts; Dislikes: Elders people; Ambition in Life: to be as fast as Myles Bunn, as smooth as Mark Cameron and as sweet as Matthew Bunn; Most Memorable Moment: Playing football with my stock and station idols Peter Steer and Scott Lord.

MANGOPLAH-COOKARDINIA UNITED EASTLAKES (,f )1lt,.N1t.~ A pretty ordinary day last Saturday against

Turvey - going down in all grades, netball included. Afterwards, the Club had the Players Auction and everyone had a good time and the atmosphere was good.

The 18s came up against a slick side, and found it difficult to go with them. The young blokes know they can do better, and hopefully will in the near future, produce the form they are capable of. Col Sanbrook once again stood out like a sore thumb to gain 3 votes. The Willis cousins, Chris and Andrew got the 2 & 1 votes respectively.

The 2nds must have stayed in the shed for the 1st quarter as Turvey banged on 10 goals. To their credit they put up a much better fight from then on. Highlight of the game would have been a handball Brain Hawke dished out. Spectators couldn't remember the last time Brian handballed. Matty Nixon put in a good 4 quarter effort and earn! 3 votes. David Lloyd continued his fine form in a bustling performance and earn! 2 votes from Alex Egan who stopped everylhing going his way to get 1 vote.

The Ones also must have stayed in the sheds. The less said about this game the better. Mick Grant put his body on the line and won the Mug, while Ben Perkins showed us what he can do and got 2 votes. Brad "Prancer" Roberson showed he is getting back to good form with 1 vote going his way.

In the Netball, the A Grade were well bea1en, with Bronwyn Harris winning the Mug. Sharnie

Lawson, Tracey Shultz and Kate Hawkin also played well. B Grade lost a close one by 4 goals. Bronwyn Smith won the Mug, no doubt only filling it with coke, while Amie Curtois and Shantelle McCormack playing well also. The Juniors were also beaten by an older and bigger Turvey side. Allycia Hawke won 3 votes from Kim Butler and Karina Baldwin.

As stated before, the Players Auction was a huge success so let's get our money in. Don't forget the Blue and Gold Ball on June 19. Today we have travelled to Griffith, let's make the most of our opportunities. GO GOANNAS!

NSW/ACT RAMS v MURRAY BUSHRANGERS

Let's go back to our basic premise of good feedback: three positives to every negative. The Positives: we had a fantastic Friday night function with the players, staff and parents at the Rules Club; the hospitality shown by the Riverina parents in providing accommodation for ACT and Sydney players was tremendous and thirdly the bus driver was great. On the other side was the fact that we were thrashed by a far superior, highly skilled and well drilled football team.

The Bushrangers are arguably one of the best teams we have seen in our four years in the TAC Cup Competition . We were depleted for sure with LePavoux, Andrew Hill, James Ceely and Liam Blumfield absent but we did not measure up.

In summary three things stood out; The Bushies were better organised around the contest to win the ball; we lacked the skills to keep the ball and when we lost possession the Bushrangers punished us with our lack of accountability and their kicking skills. Many times our players battled their guts out, only to see the ball flicked out to an unattended Bushies player. Many other times we went into our 50 metre area only to lose possession with poor kicking and decision making. We then sat back and watched our opposition cleanly take

the ball down the other end and kick goals. Above the carnage stood some mighty

efforts from the RAMS players. Ben Fixter again showed why he is pound for pound the most courageous and determined player in the competition; He never, ever gives up. He has a fine future in front of him because of the considerable qualities he possesses, a fantastic performance. Ben Phibbs again tried everything to lift the team, Chris Oliver in the ruck matched the opposition's star, Brad Maloney showed again he is beginning to emerge and Glenn Currie had the better of his duel with one of their top players. Special mention to Jake Maguire playing his first game with the RAMS. He showed a lot of potential and Peter Walsh also impressed as another 17 year old.

This week we are back at Football Park in Canberra on Saturday at noon to take on the Oakleigh Chargers. As rubber man once said let's bounce back!

RIVERINA UMPIRES ASSOCIATION '~port' THE RULE OF THE WEEK: Following a goal score,

the ball is returned to the umpire in the centre and prior to the bouncing of the ball the umpire notices an injured player in the square, receiving attention, in addition to the permitted number of players. What is the decision? (Answer below)

This week senior appointments for RUA and Farrer for this weeks round are: EWK v Wagga Tigers: Darryl Richardson & Craig Heathcote, Narrandera v Coolamon: Brett Webb v Tim Beard, GGGM v Leeton Whitton: Robert (Cocco) Anderson & Scott Crowley, Turvey Park v Temora: Mark Gaskill & Graeme Cox, Griffith v MCUE: Gary Gardner & Andrew Crook.

Nth Wagga RAAF v Ardlethan: Mark O'Brien & Ben Dore, Coll Ash/Kap v TRYC: Pat O'Donohue & Andrew Crook, Rivcoll v Cootamundra: Gary Frater & Craig Rogers, APM v Marrar: Russell Jones & Dave Farrelly.

Congratulations to Craig Rogers on his appointment to his first 1st Grade game this year (not bad for an old footballer).

Umpire Profile:This week we profile one of our younger members. Scott Crowley has been umpiring with the RUA since 1994, where he started as a boundary umpire. He was convinced to move to central shortly after and commenced in the Wagga & District Juniors, moving through the ranks to U18s and eventually in 1997 his 1st Grade debut. He has since officiated in RFL 1st Grade and is a regular Farrer 1st Grade appointment. This week sees him back to RFL 1st Grade. His most memorable moment is officiating in last years U18 grand final. Scott is currently undertaking Year 12 studies and his father Tim is a regular goal umpire with the association, making it a real family affair. Scott enjoys the comradery and friendships made in an umpiring career and encourages other young people to seriously consider "taking up the challenge".

The Social Committee reminds members of the first function which is to be held at the Rules Club on

the 17th July 1999 at 7.00pm. The theme is a Celebrity Head evening and those who went last year will recall what a good night it was. Book this in your diaries now. Also the annual raffle is now on sale, so members who don't have their books please contact Michelle Ryan or Kerry Gaskill to obtain one. Please ensure you sell your book prior to the first function .

Prizes this year are kindly donated by FERNLEIGH RD ONE STOP PETROL STORE, LEONS GOLF CONNECTION AND THE RULES CLUB.The raffle will be drawn at the Celebrity Head night.

We again extend to clubs an invitation to clubs an invitation for us to attend your training to answer any queries or clarify issues that you may have. A presentation has been devised and the clubs that we have been to have found it worthwhile. Contact Norm Webb or Graeme Cox to discuss a visit by the RUA.

We seek a few more members to our association. If you are interested in finding out more about umpiring and what rewards there are in participating feel free to ask one of our members or contact our officials whose numbers are listed in the club directory.

Thanks to our sponsors, AUSTAR, THE RULES CLUB AND THE HOME HOTEL. Your support is greatly appreciated and ask our members to support and promote their businesses.

Rule of the week answer: Rule 5.5.2 If this happens, the rule states that the field umpire

does not commence play until the player is removed from the square following the umpires direction to do so. If the instruction is not immediately complied with then a free kick will be awarded to an opposing player nearest the centre circle. A free kick is not awarded if the field umpire has given the player the right to leave the ground on a stretcher under law 3.2.5

# It now seems that the "on" again "off' again State Championship Match between the Riverina Football League and the Sydney Football League is ·on" again on Saturday June 12th at Monarch Field Campbelltown. The RFLcontingent will travel up on the morning of the match, play the games, stay that night and return triumphant on Sunday June 13th. The curtain-raiser will commence at 1 pm and feature a match between a Riverina Under 18 team against the SFL 18's. This is to be followed by the main clash of the RFL V SFL at 3pm. Both games will be 16 a side with four on the bench. So much for the trip to the "big smoke" to play on the SCG & see an AFL game - but no doubt we'll bring back the State Title. Good Luck Fellas!!

# Merk reckons that "01 Huewy" is a dead set Collingwood supporter - he cried all last weekend - because: a) the "Pies weren't playing, b) they play Sydney Swans at the SCG on this Sunday and haven't got "Bucklies" of winning -Plugger will kill 'em on his own, c) They are down near the bottom of the ladder (where they belong), d) all of the above.

""d) is the obviously 100% correct!!!

# Merk had a bit of a "bopeep" at the games at Maher Oval last Saturday and was astounded at the speed of No 9 for the Hume League Mob, -one - Scott McGrath. Boy was he quick - a couple of times he grabbed the ball and literally took the Farrer League boys on and left them in his wake

as he charged up the ground to deliver the ball to his forwards. Fair dinkum Merk reckons there are still brown scorch marks around the wing in front of the new sheds where he demonstrated his explosive pace. Merk said he was that quick that, he could visit Saxon Street and be back before his girlfriend knew he was gone!!

# The NSW/ACT Rams sure got ambushed on their own dung-hill by the Murray Bushrangers last Saturday. The game was billed as a chance for the "Home" side to turn the corner and score an upset to give themselves a boost after some near misses in recent weeks. The "Bushies" had other ideas and went on to emphasise their undefeated status as the top team in the TAC Cup competition. The way they moved the ball into attack, their speed and skill was undoubtedly a highlight for the footy purists bit not the Rams supporters. The Rams are at "Home" in Canberra this Saturday where they take on the Oakleigh Chargers.

# Saturday Night will be a BIG one at Gumly Gumly when the East Wagga Kooringal Hawks will stage a reunion of the 1979 Premiership Side. The Hawks scored an emphatic victory against rivals Wagga Tigers in the Farrer League decider at Yerong Creek. The team was coached by the legendary Greg Leech, whose son David is now playing senior football for the Hawks. Should be a great night. President Mark Mullins has all the details on the events of the evening.

# Also Cootamundra Blues supporters are reminded of the BIG 40th Anniversary Dinner to be held over the June long weekend - next weekend. Contact Secretary Rod Knagge for further details.

Farrer League

Well it's back to club football this weekend after a very successful challenge against the Hume League last Saturday at Maher Oval. Congratulations to all the players on a top notch effort - also coach Greg Brain, manager David Oehm, selectors Mark Driscoll, Maurice Gaynor and Ian Manning and all the helpers. The Hume League certainly fought back in the third quarter and actually hit the front with an early goal in the last quarter. The Farrer boys responded magnificently to the challenge and put the issue beyond doubt with a stirring 8 goal burst in the final 25 minutes of footy - great stuff!! The crowd was reasonable, considering the ''freebies" and were treated to three excellent games of football at different levels. The under 16's match between Hume and Wagga & District was hard, fast and exciting with the Hume League able to rally in the dying stages to pinch the game by 4 points. The TAC Cup proved to be the only one-sided match with the undefeated Murray Bushrangers cruising to a 93 point victory over the NSW/ACT Rams. It was a great opportunity to witness the local talented players strut their stuff in a competition game. The pace, skills, teamwork and commitment shown by the participants was a treat to watch.

Today we commence the Second Round of Home & Away matches. The Rock-Yerong Creek have come through the first round unscathed and certainly look ominous for a third successive flag at this stage. They put the lights out for the Ardlethan Stars in their last outing and this week face the Collingullie/AshmonV Kapooka Demons at the Crossroads. The Demons have been playing well and must be given a chance at home but it will take an extremely exceptional effort to clip the Magpie

feathers today. The North Wagga /RAAF Saints have been inconsistent so far this season and will need to put it altogether for the full four quarters at McPherson Oval to take the points and the shine out of the Ardlethan Stars. The "tin town" boys will no doubt be "snaky" after their poor showing against the Magpies in their last outing and will test the Saints at home today. The Rivcoll Bushpigs have probably pencilled in the game against the Cootamundra Blues as a win, but the case is far from closed and the Blues will be out to spring a surprise and score their first win for the season. The Blues have been improving each week but have little to show for all their effort. Rivcoll will relish playing at home in front of their adoring fans but the result is hard to predict - the "prize" for the loser may well be the dreaded wooden spoon. The final match of the round should be a real "Blast" as the Bombers clash at Ariah Park. Both the Marrar Bombers and the Ariah Park Brown Bombers are finals aspirants and a win today is imperative as the war hots up for spots in the final five. Ariah Park kicked twenty goals against the Saints in their last outing and still went down by ten points while Marrar were a little inaccurate in front of goal in disposing of the Bush pigs. The game should be a real fight to the finish with the result hard to predict.

Congratulations first to our players who represented Farrer League last weekend.

Two weeks back againstAPM and the Ones having a good win against the Bombers team that refused to lie down with the result being a good fast, clean game of footy witnessed with the honours going our way. Award winners went something like this. The Mug to Captain Coach Gavin "Hippy" Hofert who was more damaging than Matty Cowpers driving to kick a lazy 12 down forward. Russell Randal won the Blarney Dinner with yet another good game on the wing. Kaine Malone continued his good form of late to pick up 10 free Brewskies thanks to the Palm and Pawn. While Chris Irvine had the ball on a string to win the Palm and Pawn Dinner.

The Twos although undermanned put in a pretty good effort to lose to a team which was too good on the day. Lee Matthews played well at the CHB to take out the Mug while Courts also played well, back to collect the Palm and Pawn beer tickets. The two Richo's collected the other two awards with Darren Richardson winning the Mark Anthony's Award and Shane Richards was again winning the Farmers Counter Lunch. A special mention to Mick Maloney on his acting debut in Water Rats last week.

The Netballers yet again had no luck. A Grade award winners were Kaine·s girlfriend Kelly Gregson and Kaine's sister Cassie winning the Mug and Palm and Pawn Dinner respectively, keep up the good coaching Kaino. B Grade Award winners were Water Rats star Mick Maloney's better half Jackie. Actually much better half. The Palm and Pawn beer tickets going to Bee Jones. Keep battling away girls.

This week we welcome the old twistie wrappers to McPherson Oval for some good injury free footy and netball.

We invite the Stars and Starettes back to the Palm and Pawn for a couple of Lagers after all games are completed.

Let's make the Ball a good night with some victories to celebrate. Yet another reminder about memberships and sponsorships.

Some good news to report with the go ahead of the clubrooms, finally. Congratulations to all involved in the project.

Until next week, dip me in honey and throw me to the lesbians.

THE SAINT.

I COLUNGULIJE~ASHMONT-KAPOOKA ·. I) )~)I c, NS., First let me congratulate Coota on their

sterling effort two weeks ago, you have to admire a team like Coota, who battle week in week out.

Both our Grades had very convincing wins, in the Magoos with 8 or 9 to pick from for the bench. There were a few long faces, but as the Coach said first in best dressed, so the plan is to be early. Our favourite son Dane Fuller was taken to hospital where he received twelve stitches in his lip. The Mug and Club Cash went to Joel Mellen who forgets sometimes how big he is and will take on opponents three times his size. Welcome back to Jamie Hubbard, who will have a Salon Christie Hair Cut, Jason Dash will quench his thirst with the 6 pack and young Kade Carey was coaches pet.

In the Ones, awards were hard to pick with everyone having a dig. Adam (Ebony) Carey had a real top game as did Darren (Daisy) May, Heath Bruckner, Jeremy Radley, Paul Hull and Scott Macklan - it's sometimes disappointing when we can only give four awards. The Mug & Dinner for Two went to Brad Aiken, Eddie Whyman the John Waring Endeavour Award, John Breed the R.H Blake and Jade Mathyssen, the Club Cash.

This week we have a tough one against The Rock, but with a couple of key players back, we should put it to them. We will be without Rob Turner who is away on a course with the Army, so let's show our great team spirit, determination and put it to TRYC.

Remember that little poem that says, "Fight One More Round".

· We have 3 milestones this week, Hamish McLeod, Reg Wheeler, Jeff Rule will play their 50th game for the combined Coll-Ash-Kap Football Club, well done to you all!

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc. • "FOOTY RECORD" - 1999

First of all congratulations to our eight representative players from last week. We certainly had a fair say in the result of the battle with Hume League. Mark O'Leary won Farrer's Award, Leroy as Captain led by example, Terlo, Barney, Marc, Matty, Nick and Thommo all had an influence on the game. It is nice to be a part of a winning Rep team. To those who helped out with the catering we thankyou for your assistance.

A fortnight ago we battled the Stars and came home with a very good win. It certainly makes the trip worthwhile and to finish the first round in tact is pretty satisfying. Award winners were: The Rock Butchery Mug - Graham Terlich. The Yerong Creek Hotel Mug- Barney Fellows. The Rivspray Ag'nVet Socks - Nick Moore. The Tyreworld Voucher -Wayne Corbett. Amateur Awards - $40 Tim Brain and $20 Marc: Bauer. A good all round effort by everyone.

The Magoos were buoyed with an abundance of numbers which makes it difficult in one way but easy in other ways. It will become very competitive from here on in so everyone get to training and impress the coach there first. Performance and attitude will play a big part in the composition of the team for the rest of the year. If you miss out one week don't chuck it in. There are plenty of ways to be a part of it without actually playing. Awards were: The Tyreworld Mug - Justin Driscoll. The Porky & Verdo Mug - Conrad Haggar. The Rivspray Ag'n'Vet Socks - Matty Black. The Tyreworld Voucher- Brad Merrills. The $1 0Awards - Justin Driscoll and Scott Brown.

The Club welcomes Troy Ashcroft and hopes that he has a successful as well as enjoyable stint with us. Welcome back to Dale Gowland also who doesn't want to be out done by little brother.

Another reminder to those who still owe for shirts. See Fitzy or Colleen and fix up for them. Whilst on financial reminders there are still a few who owe for their memberships. See Sandman and fix it up ASAP.

Calcutta voting at present is: Leroy and Grunter on 20, Craigy 11, Matty Carroll 9, Terlo 8, Chrisso 7, Gundy and Thommo 5. There is still a lot of cash outstanding for this so to avoid embarrassment pay Sandman ASAP.

The new light towers should be erected and in operation now or shortly. Rod, Fitzy and Thommo have put in a lot of time and effort in organising the construction of these. They will make a huge difference to existing lighting and we are indeed thankful to them and their workers.

This weeks Personality Profile is Major Sponsor and Publican Andy Dickins. Favourite Drink - not water that's for sure. Favourite Food -steamed rainbow trout dipped in chardonay. Favourite Pastime - tinkering in the garden with Shirlene. Most Admired Person - Stone Cold Steve Austin. Whom would like to spend 60 minutes with - Little Johnny and his GST.

Today we battle the Demons at the crossroads. They will be a different proposition than the first round and with their full forward off the fags they will have even more pace. We must not give them a sniff because remember what happened last year.

Three from 5 two weeks ago - a fair effort.

The 2nds got home after a close game all day,

4 points the final margin. Adrian Sparks found

unusual form kicking 4 while Dave Manning and

Shannon Bell gave a superb drive from the

centre. Ben Jennings moved to the forward

pocket after straining a 'rear' muscle.

First Grade never really got going, playing well in short bursts. Leon Carter took the Mug

for his ridiculous number of bounces and

Andrew Dubojski and Andrew Hillier once again

played well. Ben Walsh kicked well and Steve

Jones got numerous hand ball gets.

The netballers had a good day winning 2

out of 3. C Grade won by 6 with Tanya Hawthorn - Fenech getting 3 votes. B Grade won by heaps

and Reagan "how is your knee dear?" Harris

collected possessions everywhere. A Grade went down in a nail biter, Rochelle Sherman

aka Pumba trotted her way around the court,

landing many bombs.

Don't forget training Tuesday's and

Thursday's. This week we have Coota at home, so see

you at the Duke after the game. So until - Scotty Angel "picks up" 5 dollars,

the bread whore returns, Big Gay Al trips Steve

Murrumbidgee Valley Australian Football Assoc . • ·FoOTY RECORD" - 1999

Another tough day at the office against the Gullie with the boys paying the price for a poor start. Award winners were Brent Milthorpe (Mug), Matt Ceeney (Socks) and Big Bear Cooper (Olympic Hotel Meal).

The Reserve Graders although under manned and unexperienced battled hard all day. Award winners being Ian Coggan (Mug) and Michael Lewett (Socks).

A big thank you to the many members in the Senior Club who helped out with the Junior Carnival by way of umpiring, timekeeping etc. The day was a huge success and looks to be going from strength to strength.

It is now only one week until the Reunion and the organisers are in the process of making final arrangements. With numbers exceeding expectations it has been a huge organising process and for those who helped out by booking weeks ago , your cooperation is appreciated. For anyone not yet booked and PAID you must do so tomorrow by seeing Rod Knagge or at Des Gutheries on Monday which is the final date for bookings.

Bushpig Park today so let's make it a big one.

rtl1tlllill~ Well with all the representative games out

of the road its back to business of club footy. Congrats to Nat, Brendon and Squeak on the Farrer duties. Also representing Ariah Park was Gillian McLean and Kristen Ireland in the Open Farrer Netball team. While Jamie Shelton, April French, Crystal Stanley, Elizabeth Baker and Kate Lynch all played in the Under 1 7's Farrer team, well done to all.

Its been two weeks since our last game with some major happenings taking place, the biggest of which was that, the laconic "Possum· Doyle became a father to a bouncing baby girl. Congrats to Felicity and Paul. Also the other thing of note was some welcome rain which should let Cameron get his 13000 acres of crop sown finally make a comeback to our playing ranks.

Our games against North Wagga provided some mixed results. The Seconds played their best footy for the year to score a solid win, while the Firsts won the 3 quarters but lost the football game due largely to a horrid first quarter. The days highlights were 1) young Gerard O'Briens 1st Grade debut, where he joined the elite club of kicking a goal with the first kick in league footy. 2) Ferret Gaynor's 1st Grade goal umpiring debut, (if he's going to take it up full time we'll have to take the hem up on the coat), 3) Terry Green Hams 8 goals, 4) Norm Walkers 1 goal and 5) Vinnie Gaynors role as an impact player off the bench in the Seconds.

Netball news: Rebecca Brookes has gained her Senior B umpiring badge. Last weeks awards were sponsored by Chris Cross Country Craft, so for all your Chris Cross Country needs see Chris at Chris Cross Country Craft in Coolamon Street. The A Grade had a big 60-27 win with Kristen Ireland taking the $10 Award and Rebecca Brooks the Mug. The B Grade remain undefeated after a big 70-11 with Bridget Kay $10 richer and Renae Quade taking the Mug. The Club Towel was won by Susanne Fairman.

Righto this week, the start of the second round, with us taking on the other Bombers at Ariah Park cricket pitch Oval. Go the Mighty Brown Bombers, Go the Mighty Carlton Blues.
