cavities 101 by kami hoss
TRANSCRIPT
Cavities are bacterialinfections.
While cavities themselves are the actual
holes in your teeth, bacterial infections
are what cause the holes to form.
Bacteria living in your mouth turn sugar
to acid which in turn softens your
enamel and weakens your teeth.
Cavities are supercommon.
Aside from the common col, tooth decay
is the secon most common disease in the
country, affecting 25% of children, 50% of
people between 12 and 15, and more
than 90% of adults over 40 living in
America, with dental expenses accounting
for nearly 18% of all healthcare expenses
for kids from 5 to 17.
The problem isn'talways sugar.
While sugar itself is a primary cause of
tooth decay, it's not the only culprit;
problem foods include foods that are
sticky and get stuck in the cracks in your
teeth, promoting the growth of bacteria.
By taking care of yourteeth...
you’re not only saving your smile but
could be saving your health in the long
run. Aside from the oral benefits of
avoiding cavities, there is also evidence
showing an association between poor
oral hygiene and an increased risk of
cardiovascular disease. Do what’s best
for your mouth and for yourself, and do
your part to stop your own war on
cavities.
