SOME OF THE MANY ENRICHMENT/AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS
I have some exciting news to share with you this week. On Wednesday evening the Causeway Governing Body voted to apply to the Department for Education for Causeway to become an Academy. The Governors believe this will be a hugely positive step for the school. I do too. We are an innovative, forward-looking, dynamic school that has developed nationally recognised practice and partnerships with the wider community. We have a lot to be proud of and an inspiring vision for the future to protect. The governors decision is bold and am-
bitious which reflects our values and the aspirations we have for our students. We have chosen to do this in partnership with East Sussex Council. They have been extremely supportive. Next week I will let you know more about how we will consult widely to ensure everybody has a chance to contribute to the next steps. Looking ahead, I'm tremendously excited about the opportunities this will present in allowing us to deliver our vision of educational excellence for every single child at Causeway.

A very well done to two of our best netball players in year 11 Charlee Webb and Faith Manjoro. They both went all the way to Chichester College last week for County Netball training. Although they haven’t yet made the final squad, with such exceptionally high talent on show, they learnt a great deal form the experience, not only about how to become a stronger player but something more important than that, they learnt about their own character, about pushing yourself to the limits and giving the unknown a try. They performed extremely well at the event and were a real credit to the School so a very big WELL DONE! At The Causeway School we value determination and ‘dreaming big’. For many of us this can be a bit scary but the rewards for trying is character building and will lead to you being a stronger more resilient person. EDUCATION GUIDE
A Guide to Your Child’s School Education The link below will take you to a useful document which details concerns parents of Year 7 students may have regarding secondary education. However, it has features for students and parents across the whole school which you may find informative and useful, including details on: Homework Help, Key Stage 3, GCSE, ‘Preparing for Exams’, Wellbeing etc. Further details available via the Collins web-site under the secondary section. http://www.collins.co.uk/page/Revision+for+Parents
Some of the PSHE and Citizenship curriculum is taught during tutor time. These sessions encourage students to look at current issues through discussion and debate. Topics we will cover are: • Finance; • Careers; • Businesses; • Democracy and justice; • Rights and re-sponsibilities; • Identity and diversity: living together in the UK; • Sustainable development; • Feeling positive- depression and mental health; •A safe and healthy lifestyle; • Recognising and managing risk - road safety, drugs and alcohol, e safety; • Increasing responsibility; • Making a positive contribution to communities - charity work; • volunteering; relationships. These topics will help students to develop an awareness about their role in the community and the values they need to be a good citizen. It will help them to think about being caring, compassionate, resilient, determined and independent. If your child has been prescribed medication that they need to take during
the school day, the school ‘Student Medication’ form MUST be completed
and handed in with the medication in its original packaging to main
reception. Without this medication form we cannot allow students to take
the medication. The Medication will be kept securely and a log kept of
when your child takes a dose. This will be done under supervision of the
medicines administrator in the medical room. This form can be obtained
from reception. If your child becomes unwell during the school day they must inform
their teacher and take a note to the medical room for attention. Please remind your child
NOT to contact you directly but to report to the medical room. Reception staff or first
aider will contact you if necessary. The school is responsible for your child’s welfare
whilst on the premises and everyone need to follow the correct procedure to ensure that
your child receives the appropriate care.
POST-16 TRANSITION EVENING
LRC HOMEWORK CLUB
This has seen a busy start to the new school year with many of our new Year 7's understanding the importance of getting their homework completed fully and on time. However, students from other year groups are also making excellent effort and special mention goes to Ellis Burgess, Year 9, for producing some great homework for his English lessons on 'The Curious Incident of the Dog' which he has a sound knowledge of the characters and storyline. Students are working hard across subjects and year groups and this is a wonderful positive start to a busy term. Well done everyone!
Last night we held a very successful Post-16 Transition Evening for our Year 11’s and their Parents/Carers. Many prestigious Colleges from the East Sussex area were represented and provided useful information for the large audience in attendance. A good place to start planning your Post-16 options is to think of these three questions:- Where am I now? (what qualifications, skills and interests do I have?) Where do I want to get to? (What would I like to be doing in 5 years time—job, house, children?) How will I get there? (What course or training is likely to get you where you want to go?)
