Inside: Video killed the radio star, until New Marston hit the airwaves! Plus sad kittens and Ender dragons…

On our Friday assembly we collected all those tins because there are people out there that are starving and don’t have anything to eat.

We sang a lot of songs, my favourite one is the Harvest Samba.

We did it on harvest celebration because it is when we collect food from the farm.

by Sama | Year 2 Oak

It is for people that don’t have food or money, we have to give tins and packages with food. We collect a lot of things for the people that don’t have a lot of things. We sang three songs and my favourite one was cauliflower fluffy.

We celebrate harvest to be thankful for the food that we have and we think about those who are less fortunate than ourselves. We also collect all of our favourite foods that we can send to those in need. This is also a time when farmers collect in all their crops that had grown over the summer so that we can buy those foods all year round. This is also a time to celebrate and have fun so this year we sang some songs and admired all of our tins of food!

Radio New Marstonby Felix & Nauman Y3 Poplar

I hope that you listened to us on the radio. We talked to BBC Radio Oxford and did the homework question (ours was about the rainforest). We listened to some other

classes talking as well. They were talking about their learning subjects. We heard about science and maths, which were some of their favourite subjects.

I enjoyed learning about maths. We were comparing objects and numbers. I went to Breakfast Club, and my favourite things are Pick’n’Mix and chocolate pancakes!

We’ve been learning about international day… about Malaysia. The capital city is Kuala Lumpur!

I’ve enjoyed maths – we were rounding up to a thousand! I’m also enjoying drawing and skipping outside!

Hello! I’ve had a good time learning about science. About herbivores, omnivores and carnivores - I’m an omnivore! I want to be a zookeeper.

Hi! We were learning about a book called Varjak Paw, it’s a children’s book about a cat. It’s our favourite! And we’re learning in English about writing interesting openings…

Varkak Paw goes on an adventure and finds loads of friends. He learns fighting skills. My comic strip for The Phoenix was about something that happened in real life. I met a teacher at a river and I didn’t say hello so she said next time she’d chuck me in the river!

Hello. We had a treasure hunt in the Black Tale. There was a box that had a mouse inside!

Hello. I’ve enjoyed maths. We were counting backwards in fours.

Hi. I liked learning about deforestation and about how it’s bad and how it’s good. I think it’s bad because people cut down trees and make wildlife go away. After school I do ballet! I’m in Grade 1 and I’m doing my exam this year!

What I’ve been enjoying learning about today is deforestation and we’ve been highlighting good and bad and I think it’s bad because it puts more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere! And I’ve got a football club and a yoga club! We’ve done a few chakras and airplane and hot air balloon. It’s really fun!

STRATEGY MASTER

Minecraft by Thomas | Year 6 Elm

You can build make diamond armour, defeat lots of animals and bosses, some as hard as the Wither and the Ender Dragon in the end stronghold.

You can choose from peaceful, easy, normal and hard if you install mods on a computer or sometimes on a phone or iPad.

So you start of in Survival or Creative you can’t die. In Survival you mine you can die but you start off with nothing. You can make a lot of different tools. You can kill animals and you get food – you only need it if you are in easy, normal and hard, and you have a hunger bar.

Monster Legends By Filip | Year 4 Aspen

Monster Legends is my favourite video game because it has monsters.

You have to collect monsters to become a Monster Legend. There are like over a hundred levels. I have passed 20 levels.

You battle against people. There are three types of battles, one of them is dungeons I forgot the rest of the battle. Also you collect money from your monsters and you can buy stuff for the battles and other things. You can level monster and they get stronger. And you get a new monster every week.

It’s a game that you have to download, it only works on a touch device like a phone or a tablet.

1 Snow leopards are very rare – there are an estimated 3,500 to 7,000 snow leopards left in the wild.

2 Snow leopards live very high up in the mountains of Asia – in Russia, China and India.

3 What snow leopards eat depends on where they live – most often they hunt wild sheep and goats.

Why do kittens purr?by Iris | Year 3 Poplar

The reason people are most familiar with is that purring kitten is content and happy but in reality, kittens purr for a lot of reasons and not all of them mean they’re happy. People think a kitten’s purr is like a human smile… but in fact kittens may purr when they’re nervous, sick, in pain or even when close to death.

Why do kittens cry?by Iris | Year 3 Poplar

Kittens may cry for lots of different reasons. Maybe they’ve been taken away from their too early, or they are hungry. Recognising the reason why a kitten is crying might help you understand each cry and be able to give them the comfort they need.
