PARISH INFORMATION 33rd Sunday in Ordinary Time GETTING THROUGH THE TOUGH TIMES “It’s going to get worse before it gets better” is a phrase that prepares us to buckle up for a rough ride. We know that enduring a difficult time will require some strenuous physical or emotional energy on our part before we experience the calm of normality. Our past experience tells us that we can endure the difficult pressure better when we know how long it will last and if we know that something better awaits us. Getting through the tough times while holding to the promise that awaits us is the message of this weekend’s readings. SIGN THE PETITION AGAINST ASSISTED SUICIDE LAW Archbishop Gomez is urging everyone to sign the pe on to include in the November 2016 ballot, a Referendum to Overturn the Assisted Suicide Law. The Knights of Columbus will work with volunteers at the parish level to deliver informa on and instruc ons, to help with the gathering of signatures, and to deliver the completed signature forms to the appropriate government agency for verifica on. The Archdiocese is recommending the weekend of November 21-22, Christ the King Sunday, as the best me for this effort. Stop Assisted Suicide in CA before it’s too late! Earlier this year, through a Special Session, the CA legislature passed assisted suicide, allowing doctors to prescribe overdose medica on to terminally ill pa ents. Join a coali on of physicians, nurses, disability-rights organiza ons, and people of all faiths to stand for the lives of our elderly and dying and oppose assisted suicide! On November 22, Christ the King Sunday, pe ons will be available for signature outside of Masses. Signers must be registered to vote and can only sign once.

Why Oppose Assisted Suicide? • Sends the Wrong Message: Legalizing suicide for the terminally ill,

while discouraging it for the rest of the popula on, teaches that the lives of the ill and disabled do not ma er to our society.

• Will Worsen Pa ent Care: Pa ents in other states, like Barbara Wagner in Oregon, are being denied treatment prescribed by their doctors, and instead offered drugs for assisted suicide.

• Will Increase Non-Terminal Suicide Rates: Suicides skyrocket when assisted suicide is legalized. Oregon's suicide rate for non-terminal people increased 49% a er assisted suicide became legal.
