You are invited to the parish book club’s discussion of this book on Sunday, Jan. 10, at 7 p.m., at the church. CROP WALK RESULTS have been reported. The New Holland area Crop Walk generated a total of $10,997 for area food banks. Our Lady of Lourdes collected $1,081 towards that total. Eleven churches participated in the program this year, and there were a few anonymous donations made online. While this event is a blessing for area food banks, donations and participation continues to wane annually. THIS WEEK’S MASSES AND INTENTIONS

CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK Selection of your child’s school is among the most important choices you will make. OMPH School partners with parents in providing a faith-based education for the children of our parish. We have a strong tradition of academic excellence, but more importantly, the gospel message and spirit of Catholicism permeate the school day. Our children are blessed to have daily interaction with the Redemptorist Fathers serving OMPH parish. Registration is now open to all parish families for Preschool through Grade 8 for the 2016-2017 school year. The Preschool program, for children who are 3 and 4 years old by September 1st, provides developmentally appropriate activities in a Catholic environment and offers an after-care program. Our full day Kindergarten program, for children who are 5 years old by September 1st, provides daily Religion class along with skill development in Language Arts and Math and special classes in computer, library, physical education, art, and music. Students in grades 1 through 8 experience an education noted for academic excellence in an environment which reinforces our Catholic identity. An on-site after school program is also available. Interested parish families are encouraged to register by February 1st; registration will then open to non-parishioners. Please join us on Sunday, January 24th as we celebrate the gift of Catholic education at the Our Lady of Lourdes 9:00 am Mass. Following the liturgy, join us for coffee and donuts in the Parish Center and the opportunity to meet members of the OMPH School faculty. You can also visit the school on Sunday, January 31st at 10:00 am for an Open House, or schedule a personal tour at your convenience! Our address is 330 Church Avenue, Ephrata. To learn more about our school, please visit our website at www.omph.org or call the school office at 738-2414 for further information. You can also find us on Facebook at Our Mother of Perpetual Help-Ephrata. Financial aid is available to qualifying families! ANGEL TREE NEWS ~ Thank you one and all! Thanks for your generous gifts; thanks for the spirit of giving from your heart and with your imagination; thanks for the gift of giving from the heart of a child. You bestowed not just a gift, but the blessing of kindness and dignity to 123 individuals. And with your generous contribution of gift cards you brought Christmas to many families. On their behalf and with their joy, thank you! Please continue to remember your Christmas Angel Tree Buddy in your prayers. FINANCE CORNER *Due to the New Year holiday, the financials will be updated in the January 10, 2016 bulletin.

Secret Plan The birth of Jesus became the worst kept secret in the history of the world. All along, people knew God had a plan. God had told everyone from Adam and Eve, to Abraham and Sara, to Moses and Miriam, to David and Bathsheba, to Hosea and Gomer, to Mary and Joseph that there was a plan. Nobody fully understood it. Nobody knew how God would bring the plan to fulfillment. But they all believed. They had seen God work mighty deeds in their lives, and they believed that one day the promise of redemption would be fulfilled. Jesus was God’s secret. When Jesus was born in humble surroundings outside of royalty and pageantry, only a handful of people even began to realize what God had done. But the secret got out. Angels appeared in the sky. Shepherds showed up. And Magi traveled from a faraway land. Everyone was finding out God’s two great surprises: Jesus was born as the promised Messiah, and he came not just for his own race, but for all the people of the world. The Letter to the Ephesians says, God’s mystery “was not made known to people in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit.” Jesus was born, and he came to save each of us, no matter what family we came from, what we believed, or how we behaved. The mystery of God’s love is open now to the whole world. That is the epiphany, the revelation of God’s secret. Written by Paul Turner.
