C G S L E V E L I C E R T I F I C A T I O N
Focusing on God’s uncondi onal love through the parable of the Good Shepherd, the Level I catechist for‐
ma on course is based on the convic on that God and the child are in a rela onship. It is the founda on for
the Catechesis in general and for the 3‐ to 6‐year‐old child in par cular.
This course, comprising two parts, will give you the background forma on as well as the skills to create a pre‐
pared environment, an atrium, and to offer presenta ons that enable the child to draw nearer to God.

Q: Why do Catholics call Mary Queen of Heaven? Doesn’t God rebuke the Israelites in the O.T. for worshipping a false goddess called the Queen of Heaven? Should we not refer to Mary with that title since it’s the title of a false goddess?
A: In Jeremiah 7:18, God is indeed upset with the Israelites for worshipping a false goddess called the “queen of heaven”. However, just because God rebuked them for worshipping the false queen of heaven, doesn’t mean that we cannot pay honor to the true Queen of Heaven…the Blessed Mother. That type of thinking would lead you to believe that just because people worship a false god that they call “god,” we, therefore, should not call the true God, by that same name…God…because that’s the same title the idolaters use for their god. That is faulty logic. In the same way, the fact that there is a false “queen of heaven,” does not lead to the conclusion that we worship a false goddess when we call Mary the “Queen of Heaven.” Just as the fact that there is a false “god,” does not lead to the conclusion that we worship a false god when we call our Father in Heaven God.
And there is a true Queen of Heaven, which we see quite clearly in Revelation 12:1: “And a great portent ap-peared in heaven, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars…” So in this passage, we read that there is a woman…she’s in Heaven…and she has a crown on her head. It is the true Queen of Heaven, Mary, the mother of the male child who is to rule the nations.
As Catholics, we do not worship Mary; we honor her, just as Jesus honors her. So there is absolutely nothing wrong, from a scriptural point of view, in calling Mary the Queen of Heaven, and in honoring her just as Jesus honors her. h ps://www.catholicscomehome.org/your‐ques ons/church‐teachings/mary‐the‐saints/ For any questions, or about future apologetics classes, call/text Barbara Furnari @ 816-878-2838, [email protected]
Help Outpace Poverty, with Catholic Chari es during the month of May when
we host a (Virtual) 5K Run/Walk that benefits our work in addressing poverty. Many
of the features you have enjoyed in the past will remain the same, only we will not
necessarily all be in one place, at one me. Instead, we will ask our team members to
par cipate individually or if together, maintaining at least the 6 . suggested social
distance. The funds raised by this event have taken on heightened importance: at‐
risk families are struggling even more in these anxious and uncertain mes. They may
have lost wages or even their employment due to restaurant, retail and venue closures. School closures may mean that their chil‐
dren have lost food security as part of their educa onal day. And an unfortunate number will deal with the actual illness. We are
seeing a large increase in requests for assistance, and we will be there to answer the need. You can be part of that answer
by registering at www.outpacepoverty.org. The registra on fee of $25 includes a t‐shirt. Please contact Nancy Bu ers, Develop‐
ment Manager, with ques ons or help registering at nbu ers@cchari es.com or 816‐659‐8266.
